Drying, Desiccants - No-Damp
    #1145507 - 12/16/02 11:38 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Hello, Im a first time cultivator. WOOHOO. Ive gotten this far, out of ten cakes, only one did i throw away cause I was super protective and thought i saw some foreign cultures. I have 9 producing cakes, and Ive just harvested 1/2 of them.

My next problem, drying. Ive read the FAQ's and Ive been hunting for desiccants. Needless to say my local hardware stores have been completely useless. They have no idea what a desiccant is, even when I explain. After one cs rep sending me to the humidifiers, i did my own looking around. In the "planting" section I found "NO-DAMP". After looking on the net, ive found a few artcles that refer to it as a desiccant. However, the active ingrediant is BENZOXINE, and it is in liquid form.

Has anyone had experience with this product? Or was I completely wrong in purchasing It.

My next question is, HOW ELSE CAN I DRY MY SHROOMS? The FAQ's dont really cover this? Is Air drying the next best thing?

Thank you for all your help. THis is a wonderful site. BTW, I used PF-TEK and the B+ strain. Also did a couple of neglect jars, but when they werent producing and my PF's were, I caked them out of fear. =p

well, if you live in the US, you've proably got lots of choice, and someone will help you out in no time. In the UK, go to Woolworths - they sell bags of calcium chloride.

In front of a fan for 24h is fine if you luck out. Loads of other choices too...

If you live in US go to your local Walgreens and look for the hydrogen perozide and rubbing alcohol. Right by it should be a product called Epsom Slats. You can use this as a dessicant but fist must get the water out of it.

If you live in Canada, go to Home Depot or Revy.
They have calcium chloride.

Yea, fan drying is the next best thing. Even if you can't find the calcium chloride (you should be able to) you should be fine. Here are some websites that sell dessicants:

Check out silica jell kitty litter. They sell it everywhere and it is about $6 a bag.

Calcium chloride is rock salt. Michigan pours it all over the roads and destroys them every winter.

But it works great
