Package Stolen

I ordered some ethnobotanical products from a well-known online vendor. Everything ordered is legal. Got tracking information from the Post Office indicating that it had been delivered, but I never got it. Waited another day in case maybe they just forgot to leave it the first day. Then I visited the post office. They searched for the package and said it was not there and should have been delivered, but that they would check with the carrier. The carrier rang my bell the next day when he delivered the mail. He said he had a substitute on the day my package was supposedly delivered. He said he would keep an eye out for any packages that might have been delivered to the wrong apartment building. However, since the package was shipped with "Delivery Confirmation" and not insured, he said I have no recourse as far as claims on the package.
I think someone must have stolen this. I do a lot of shopping online, so I probably receive 1 or 2 packages every week. In the past several years, I only had problems with one other package. That was mistakenly delivered to the wrong address (where the recipient got a bunch of packages on that day), and eventually the person who got it by mistake brought it to me.
But how would someone know to steal this package? No one has ever stolen other (non-ethnobotanical) packages, and I've had plenty of things delivered that are worth a lot more than this package. This is my first ethnobotanical order in years. I don't know how it was packed, but presumably the vendor would have shipped it in a nondescript packaging. It wouldn't say something to draw attention like "Ethnobotanicals inside!". I'm wondering though if the postman (or someone else who saw the package) might be able to recognize the shipper, maybe from past experience?
So this sucks. It's not so much being out the money, which is not that much, but now I'm afraid to order my items again for fear they will also be stolen. Especially since it appears almost all vendors ship via USPS. I guess I would take a chance on UPS or some other shipper. Anyone know how to locate shops that might have a good selection of ethobotanical products in my area?

Check with your neighbors, I had this happen and package was delivered next door. The lady was a bartender at my local bar (that I frequent) yet she said nothing to me until I asked her about it.
Never hurts to check.
Try everyone in your building and maybe other buildings but only the same apt #.
Sorry for your loss.

Request insurance, then you have to sign for your package. If you aren't home, you can pick it up at the Post Office.

If you have to sign for it you better use your real name. They want positive id when you pick it up.
