Pin growth?

My friends cakes are producing pins under the cakes. The cakes rest directly on perlite, and the pins are popping up between cakes and perlite, should my friend flip the cakes onto the side to allow the pins to grow, because theres only so much room under there for the pins to grow?? Help please?

They have the strength to lift the cake to allow for growth, but you could flip them, if you feel that is neccessary. Pins tend to grow where there is moisture, try schlopping some wet vermiculite on your cake, ala double ended casing tek, either right now to induce more pins, or after this flush to re-hydrate a little and give the guys something to drink.
