It's a matter of each state utilizing the human ressources to the benefit of the greater good. As long as the growth in popoulation can be translated into a growth in productivity within each state, the number of people won't be a problem.

I like people, the more the merrier:laugh:

What evidence do you have to support this claim that a civilized world would only be possible if every country's military was destroyed? :what:

It would be nice if you could actually respond to what I said here...:crying:

I disagree every human life is precious.

Necessary for a purpose higher than you and I can understand.

There would be no wars of any kind.

It would be nice if you weren't so blunt also.

Don't you think, by removing the military, you just leave the door open to gangs and mobs?

or are you suggesting things were acceptable back then? I'd be surprised!

They were acceptable to me cause that's all I knew. That's why I say it's subjective.

Over population is already a problem imo.

Its just a matter of time before disease, loss of resources or governmental intervention will take care of over population.

Ok, in an ideal civilized world. We would harmonize with nature. This means keeping a population relative to resources. We shift all of our labor to machines. Now no one works. We are free to do what we want with our time. I believe we could function as a collective of city states. Local law enforcement would be necessary. I know it's not a perfect system. But at least we wouldn't have to worry about world wars.

Precious is a subjective value judgment. I doubt evolution thinks about this.

And how do you know that in understanding basic evolution theory we do not understand what's going on. More subjective value judgments.

Humans haven't changed their basic emotional blueprint in our known history. There is no reason to believe that we will ever become non violent to some degree. It's very natural.

I suggest you grow a thick skin here. It makes things much more fun.

Is this reasonable considering human nature/history/current events as several have pointed out?

Yeah very reasonable indeed.

As long as people work there won't be an overpopulation, the problems will stem from a bad administration of rescources which practical wise is only made easier by the ever advancing technology, and progression of sceince.

The population will be able to create more and more and from an ethical point of view that's the best we can hope for (as we're all gonna die anyways).

Come on. Don't be such a sadhu. You certainly seem to be concerned with more than sleep, food, the world as it is to you and poo. Let loose on some theories skidding out on thin ice. You certainly can't think, with all you write about here and know, that the mid-20th Century wasn't just as shitty as this, if not in some ways worse and others slightly better. After all, we didn't have the 80's yet.

 Yeah it's all been shitty mostly. But I was young and there weren't so many restrictions on my outdoor pleasures and not so many yahoos out there in four wheel drives and ATVs. So again subjective. Technology combined with human irrational behavior makes for a bad experience imo and the more folk doing it the worse it is.

Science today cannot explain everything. How do you fill in the gaps? If we are evolving what is the natural selector? I don't believe we are maintaining an environment we can continue to evolve in. The majority is suffering. Because of the mis-management of our leaders. Also genetically we can never be peaceful. Total extinction of man would be good also. Hopefully we can imagine something better.

Hm. Not having to worry about world wars and being free from work might be considered setting your standards a bit low. Honestly.

This is a debate-oriented philosophy forum; if you disagree with anything that I said, then it is expected that you explain why you disagree.

Please leave your opinions of any individual poster's ability to understand a "higher purpose" out of this forum; remember, in this forum, we are discussing the ideas presented, not the individual who presented them.

Do you have any supporting evidence for this statement? What makes you think that getting rid of every country's military powers will somehow make it so that nobody wants to fight anybody else?

Being blunt is not against the rules here! :gethigh:
