If some cakes only produce one shroom in the first flush, what has been done wrong?

Try increasing the light your cakes receive, the more the better. I've read flourescent light works best. Things to keep in mind:

1. Fresh oxygen to the cakes
2. Plenty of light to induce pinning
3. A drop in temperature (from the incubating temp.)

Good luck.

I've read it at the Lycaeum forums from a guy that definately knows what the fuck he's talking about.

http://forums.lycaeum.org, do a search. Good info there.

Peace.

P.S. In fact, you're having the same problem as SWIM did. SWIM's cakes were barely producing when he decided to give them some more light, why not? So he put his lamp over the rubbermaid container (cover cut w/ plastic wrap over the hole) overnight, it was about 6 hrs of light, and over the course of the next day or two lots of pins appeared and there's now mushrooms growing like a bitch. Coincidence?

I've also heard and believe that a 2/22 light cycle works great. Light doesn't seem to be needed that much on my friends mushes

My friend put his shrooms on lights for 7-8 hrs days before and during the begining of pinning, then lowered it to 2-3 hrs a day once there were tons of pins.

I had my cakes in the terarium for two weeks giving them 15 min of light twice a day, no pins at all. I switched light  to 12 ON, 12 OFF. One or two days later a lot of pins
(I use 8 watt lamp inside of 60 L Rubbermaid.)
Peace

I have found my way to work tremendously. It is a simple light cycle. First, pull the cakes out of the 85 degree temp innoculation "chamber", and put it into a 75 degree fruiting "chamber". As soon as you do, give the cakes 18 hours of light. I reccomend a 80 watt bulb. After 18 hours of light, give it 6 hours of darkness. Then move strictly to a 8 hours of light per day. Mushies like to grow in the dark. The light mearly helps them to grow in the right direction, provide a little warmth, and initiate pinning. But I keep the light on 8 hours a day until it's time to harvest.

80 watt ???
Not 60 or 40 ?
I'm afraid it will get a bit warm there....
How big is your terrarium ? What the ambient room temp ? What the terrarium temp  ?

Dunked 12 hours, fanned 5x a day, 2 hours of light a day.
