I don't know; I think a lot of seriously religious people actually believe they have nothing to fear from death. Could be wrong though... I wonder how many people start to question their own beliefs when they find themselves on their death bed staring down mortality.

If anything, society today glorifies death. And wouldn't a world that believes in life after death and an immortal soul be considered more spiritual than one that believes the consciousness dies when the body does?

if anything I think too much about death
I don't wanna die and I know I will be afraid but I AM prepared to face that pain if I have too

I don't believe anything noticeable will happen in 2012, but what I do believe is that it marks the transition point, for global consciousness shift. It's happening at the moment, but 2012 was the estimated "time frame" for such events to occur. I believe it will be the "peak", if you will, of the strange phenomena that's been happening as of late. and after that it will wind down, ushering in a new era with a different mindset of people. in other words, people will be "waking up".
The end of the world thing has been blown completely out of proportion. It was but one of many interpretations of this seemingly significant event that has been apparent for thousands of years.
The world as we know it may end, but so did the Colonial era. and the Chaucer age. and Babylon.
people need to start looking outside of the box. there are more things than just the polarized "legitimacy" and "fake". before you start making assumptions you need to understand the event at hand. before you answer a question you need to understand the question being asked.
that is all.

If people keep acting like the world is going to end or some other kind of catastrophic event will occur, then maybe itll happen.

The point is that death is trivialized. Whether we fear it and refuse to face it, or glorify it to the point of romanticism, both despair and euphoria about death is an evasion.
Just look at how we treat the elderly. Death in society is taboo. That is how we get ourselves in the shit we're in.
And this is why the 2012 movie is nothing but another escape, an escape for the masses.

the world is coming to an end
which is why you are seeing the mainstream media putting out a movie like 2012
they want you to believe what is happening is according to what Mayan culture predicted and NOT the bible
There is no way to prove which prophecies came first. Bible or Mayan.
* (1) Primary sources from pre-Spanish times: the three surviving, authentic hieroglyphic books (the codices of Dresden, Madrid, and Paris) dating from the Postclassic period (after 900 A.D.); the 'ceramic codex' (the corpus of pottery scenes and texts); the petrographical texts from the Classic (200-900 A.D.) and Late-Preclassic (200 B.C.-200 A.D.) periods; * (2) Primary sources from the early-colonial (16th-century) period, such as the Popol Vuh, the Ritual of the Bacabs, and (at least partly) the various Chilam Balam books; * (3) Secondary sources, chiefly Spanish treatises from the colonial period, such as those of Landa for the Lowland Mayas and Las Casas for the Highland Mayas; * (4) Archaeological, epigraphic, and iconographic studies; and * (5) Anthropological reports published since the late 19th century, used in combination with the sources above.
The authorship of the various texts in Tanakh (the Hebrew Bible) is an open topic of research. Therefore, assigning solid dates to any of the texts is difficult.
The range of dates assigned to the Torah (Pentateuch) is rather broad. It is certain to predate the 2nd century BC, and estimates of its oldest elements range from the 10th to the 6th centuries BC. The bulk of the Tanakh was likely complete by the end of the Babylonian captivity (537 BC).
