Relentless Rains Lead Va. Gov to Declare Emergency
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Gov. Tim Kaine declared a state of emergency Wednesday in Virginia as unrelenting rain from a tropical storm soaked the state.
The declaration mobilizes state agencies to prepare for the threat of flooding over a wide swath of Virginia.
The National Weather Service forecasts 3 to 8 inches of rain through Friday morning for parts of the state as remnants of Hurricane Ida crawl across the state.
A coastal flood warning was posted for some areas thanks to a storm surge coinciding with high tide. A flood watch is posted for central, eastern and southeastern areas farther inland.
Kaine's declaration urges Virginians in tidal flood plains and areas prone to flash flooding to be on alert.

I'm sitting here in Chesterfield and it's been raining non stop since about 3pm yesterday. And the wind is REALLY picking up. I thought it was windy enough early yesterday, but holy shit, we're getting like 40-50mph gusts.
I'm afraid of a fucking tree or two coming down. Power went out for about 10 minutes earlier this afternoon too. I hope it doesn't go out tonight.
I was watching NBC Nightly News earlier tonight and they had a weatherman at VA Beach and he was completely covered in wet sand from the wind gusts.
I was NOT expecting this shit. All I heard was a lot of rain, now it's shaping up to be a bit more intense than that. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good storm, but in the night it's totally different.

All I hope is that I don't lose power.
Wind gusts tonight and tomorrow are forecasted to be in the 50-60 MPH range.
I went crazy with no power for over a week after Isabel.

I actually enjoyed the 10 days without power. I go into hyper productive mode in the wake of a storm (snow or hurricane). It's like I thrive in chaos.
Anyways I was so busy the first few days cutting up fallen trees that I didn't even care that the power was out. At night I was so dead tired I fell asleep without even thinking about TV. Read a few good books too.
When we got that fucking generator, everything changed. All the sudden we had TV and lights. I hated it. Especially because of the noise.
It was nice though. We threw a party every night and cooked steaks and burgers on the grill with everyone in our cul de sac (8 houses).
And when the power finally came back on it was all the sudden like everything was back to normal. I swear it was more of a shock to my system when the power came back on then when it went out.

Damn dude It's getting kinda scary. I was outside on the back porch smoking a cigarette a few minutes ago and the trees were swaying back and forth so much I was thinking one was gonna topple over any second.
I love me a good storm, but one after dark is a far far different situation.

Oh sweet, it's going to get worse? At least It will be in the light of day.
I doubt I'll get much sleep tonight.

According to my friends weather station, we had a wind gust of 53mph about 30 minutes ago. Now it's in the 30's.

I did that during Isabel. I never saw the kite again.
It's probably embedded in the side of someones house.

I'm disapointed, my two local airports (Newport News Intl and Langley AFB) only have wind gusts of 38 and 39 while Norfolk and VA Beach keep getting gusts of 50-55.
Maybe tomorrow will change.

The wind gusts are quite a bit slower today than yesterday, but they are more frequent. And its only like 45 degrees and it's POURING outside right now.
What a shame since I needed to work on my truck today and the garage is full of boxes. Guess I won't be doing it today.

Today is SO MUCH FUNNNN
So I spent the night at the oceanfront (Virginia Beach) last night at my girls house and it sounded like a fucking DEATH HURICANE alllllll night. I kept waking up and thinking the window was going to shatter and break all over the bed. We heard about 15 ambulance/firetrucks go by.
I had to come back to norfolk this afternoon and was doubting whether or not i'd make it. Norfolk flooding is fucking teeeeeerible. But I called my friend and she (born & raised here) gave me a route that she knew wouldn't be flooded.
Oh my way home I passed 15 power company trucks headed towards VB - they really got assraped.
THen when I got home i went over to the neighbors and we decided to make a subway run (its one block away). We had to fucking drive like 203483209 directions in order to get there, but we got our shit!

Damn you guys are getting slammed. Not too bad up here in the NYC area. Just shitty rain and light winds. They're forecasting for gusts up to 30 tonight and tomorrow. I hate cold, rainy, windy weather.
Doesn't look like the thing is going anywhere fast either. http://www.wunderground.com/radar/mixedcomposite.asp?region=b5&size=2x&type=loop
Edit: Holy shit! Look at this thing on satellite view, it's fucking HUGE.

Have already picked up 8.61 inches of rain so far. Tides are about 7.7 feet above normal, lots of street flooding. A few moments ago I just picked up a 67 MPH wind gust.
