I just started about 6 month ago. I have done the pf method alien substrate, rye to staw, spawned staw to straw. I did some honeywater. I made some flat rye patties and thaey kicked ASS. Rye and rice was stupid but, it worked to. Some people just don't have it I guess.
I want to do something new and do a log for u hippies....shhhh don't speak
What do you want to watch me try to grow.
I'll do a log in real time.

Take a sporeprint on a thin layer of dry china paint powder, then shake it up.
You should be able to pour a small amount into a shotglass full of water, and suck it into a sterile syringe.
China paint is just fine powdered glass, so it shouldn't react with the spores, and would last a long time like a print.
Get lead free china paint though.

I don't think I get it. Do you. I know what your saying but, that won't be a grow log. I want to move on to something better but, its to cold to grow cyan or azuren where I live now. I was reffering to a tek or something using something challenging and exiting besides what I have already done dude. I only have p cubenis strains now but when spring rolls along I'll be really fucked up on some azurens or some outdoor variety................Mmmmmmmkay.

Rye patties were a huge success as far as even pin set go's. I just did these because I could. I't was probally 3\4" deep. From already halfway colonized rye jars. I just dumped it in a container and flatened it out with foil and covered it with foil. Then I cased it in a simular container for good fit. It was pretty cool but nothing spectacular. Give it a shot it'll be fun.

I'm not a hippie either....think we are a minority here.
Start working with Agar. Maybe try using some birdseed. Definately spawn some horse poo with Rye or birdseed!!! You will love the poo!!!
When I really get bored I start looking for ways to improve my hobby. Think up weird inventions and experiments.

Get some of these and try and get them to fruit indoors.
http://www.sporeworks.com/azure.html
They sound quite difficult, but i'm thinking that's what you're asking for here.
I sent them an email a couple of days ago and they say that the spore prints will be in in a week or two. So I'll be getting a spore print to see what i can do with them, so if you grow these as well we can share notes.
Anybody here grown Hammonds?
I've also got some EQ mycelium growing on cocoa and rice at the moment. And some on quinoa. You could find a health food shop and try some different substrates.
Organic hemp straw might be worth a try also...

Hey, you did ask.

I'm going to the store today to get the stuff for Agar and I'll pick up some birdseed. Is there anything besides sunflower seeds I don't want in my seed. I'll see yall later MMMMMmmmmmkay..............

You could also try growing with paper as a substrate. I've seen a few posts on it and it seems interesting.

Yeah, but you said you were going to wait till spring to do them. I'm saying do them indoors as soon as the spores are there. Quote:

Cement dust isn't too desirable either.
So are you going to go with the azures then? Keep me updated if you do as i'll be starting some as soon as these spores arrive.
Didn't know they had buffalos in Arkanasasassan. Although i don't know where the fuck buffalos live anyway.

I'll go ahead and do the azurens if you think its feasable.
Screw paper theres no reason for all that.
The buffalo are not native. My dads boss has a bunch of animals even zebra. He lets my dad live on his land because he built a big ass log cabin he had to upkeep and complete.

I haven't got a clue whether it's feasable or not. I just think that it'll be a good challenge. The Hawkseye just got some azure spores in so i'm going to get some from there instead as they're only $10 a print. I got my EQ spores from him and they have worked out wonderfully.
I'm going to try growing them on a few different organic plant substrates, and i think it would be great if you would have a go also, as you seem to have access to an interesting range of substrate material. I'm sure one of us, hopefully both of us, can get these things to fruit indoors.
I have to admit that i've only just starting using casings and whole grains. So i'm rather inexperienced with anything other than BRF cakes. My first casing is fruiting like a bastard at the moment so i'm doing ok so far with it.
I figured that i can easily feed my shroom habit with BRF cakes, so I keep them going and everything else is an experiment that doesn't really matter if i fuck it up. The thing is, is that i haven't fucked it up so i'm going to be swimming in shrooms in a couple of days - life's a bitch.

WIWYTD: Grow some Ganoderma lucidum (lat.). would be great if we could start growing & trading spores. Try it , if it works maybe the free spore rings will also trade it soon.

Don't bother with indoor azures. Here's a challenge for you, spell azurescens correctly. HAHAHA, jk.
No seriously if you want an experiment, how about thoroughly investigating the anti-biotic and contam resistant qualities of colloidal silver? Add different amounts of it to agar and find out what the best most protective amount is. Try adding it to grains. Bulk substrates or casings even. Is colloidal silver as effective and combating contams as peroxide is? Is it effective in a liquid media where peroxide isn't usually. Does it have any effect on yeasts?
That should keep you busy for a few months at least. BTW, if anybody else wants to work on coloidal silver, keep me updated.

May i ask if using coloidal silver will affect my organic certification? I'm only interested in growing shrooms that are organic, as i don't wish to trip on a load of chemicals.
I'm also sort of curious as to why you would want to pour stuff into your cultures and substrates. I find that pressure cooking is a perfect steriliser, what do you do that makes you require extra chemical sterilisation techniques?
And what the fuck is coloidal silver anyway?

Not sure about organic certification. Colloidal silver is a colloid of silver, pretty simple, so far as I know it's just silver suspended in a liquid. It wouldn't be used for sterilization, but for maintaining sterility. Old school lab teks back in the days before hepa's etc used to put silver coins in the bottom of their petris to fight contamination. Old frontier folks would put silver dollars in their milk jugs to keep the milk from going bad as quickly.
The point would be to allow agar to be worked with in the open air, not in a glove box or flow hood. Pressure sterilization would still be necessary. Basically, I wonder if colloidal silver is as effective as peroxide at protecting substrates, and if it is, can it withstand pressure sterilization which peroxide can't.
