Mushroom ID please
    #11417726 - 11/09/09 10:13 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Just been out for an hour or so and found a few of these pretty locally.  Am hopeful they're active but not 100% sure.

Habitat:
Grassland in Surrey.  Was in long grass.

Gills:
brown

Stem:
Length 4-10cm,
diameter 1-2mm,
color cream,
texture smooth,
solid, thin.

Cap:
Diameter 1cm
color brown, but drying lighter,
texture slimy,
conical,
slight nipple on top.

Bruising:
No real bruising showing.

Many thanks,

Ant.

Quality.

Thought they were, and they match the pics etc, but it pays to be 100% sure.

Will take a wander over there this weekend then when the light is better and see if I can get any more before the frosts start.

Thanks!!

This is the second find this weekend!  Was sure about the others as they were slightly dryer and so a little lighter, these were darker so I wasn't 100%

Found these ones today, only 10 or so before the light failed and it got too dark to see clearly.

Saturday found a load more in another location, so this weekend I'll head out again and check them both out again.

Along those lines, how long should you give it before you go back to the same place?  Don't want to do any damage to them to prevent them coming back...

in my experience about 4 days is a fair amount of time between picks

several patches i remember that ive picked have usually fruited after about 4 days when ive returned

u got much pasture land round your area and are you competeing with other pickers?

I'll not get a chance to pick again till sunday, so that should be long enough...

Not sure about competing.  The location I found today I doubt as it's quite out of the way and involves a little trek to get to, and the one I found on Sat I picked last thing in the day so I'd imagine if someone else was there they'd have got their first and I wouldn't have found any.  Hopefully I've lucked out then (just a little late in the year!)

I've been aware of them for years and love them, just always relied on mates finding them.  Really don't know why I didn't get off my arse and look myself before now, but it's nice to be self sufficient!  Just did some research into where others have found them, then applied local knowledge (been living here for 30 years) and took a wander...

This site has def helped!!
