I made my first casing last night (15 hrs ago) and theres already mycelium breaking through the 1 inch thick top casing layer in about 15 places!!! The strain is Orissa India and and the mycelium seems to be spread out pretty uniformly. Does anyone think I should patch these spots of mycelium or just let nature take its course???

Are you sure it's myc, not cobweb or anything? Just because 15 hours is really fast for a 1 inch casing layer. But if you're sure it is nice healthy mycelium, wait a bit more, and initiate pinning
good luck!

I ordered a Orissa print from the FSRE and it kicks ass! I had full colonization and cased in 10 DAYS FLAT. I never bother waiting a week after full colonization cos I always inoculate in the middle as well as the sides which I find speeds things up immensely. I find this strain to be a VERY AGGRESSIVE colonizer.
To answer your question though frog if the myceliums spread out pretty much uniformly like you said there shouldn't be any need to patch.
