The Effectiveness of Ginkgo Biloba Pills

OK So I've been feeling a bit run down lately, just getting better from a cold/chest infection and needed something to help me concentrate in my exam study periods.
My naturopath gave me 15 Ginkgo Biloba tablets among other things.
According to the packet they contain:
- Ginkgo Biloba 120mg ext (50:1) dry leaf. Equiv dry leaf 6g. - standardised to 3.5mg bilobalide and 3.7m ginkgolides.
I popped one this morning to little to no noticeable effect. How many of these should one dose in order to get the most out of them? They need to last me another 8 days.
Any advice/anecdotes would be greatly appreciated as I've only a couple of days 'til my next exam.
(Apologies to Mods if this is in the wrong subforum, feel free to move it)

it is my opinion that ginkgo does not work so well in most situations. As far as medicine goes, i think it should be proved by science to work. try some pseudoephedrine and caffeine maybe? or if you're into the natural stuff, some herbal ephedra sp. and some coffea arabica.
edit: good to see a fellow melbournian here too.

Gingko works, it just takes a while of consistent use (up to a month)

I think it works good in some people and does nothing in other people. You have to take it consistently for a while though.

It's a tonic. In other words: you won't feel any direct physical effects after administration, and the subtle beneficial qualities will be noticable after a long period of use.
I've been taking gingko for almost a week now, and I do notice a slight positive influence on my outlook in life, as far as memory is concerned: wait and see.

Cheers guys,
my final exam is a week from now, so hopefully it'll bear some fruit by then. I found myself being able to easily recall text from memory as i was typing out some notes yesterday, but that could have just been placebo. interesting how the mind/brain works..
I'm assuming that it would yield no benefits if I were to crush the pill up and drink it in some water for faster absorption, shaft it or even insufflate it because it is a herbal extraction, right? Furthermore, I'm guessing it would be futile doubling my dose to 240mg/day because apparently it's really only effectual about a week from now...
On a slightly different note, she gave me these tablets called "Kalms" to help me sleep, and they seemed to sedate me, although they gave me some mild CEVs when I was trying to get to sleep, which was a bit distracting, but made for awesome vivid dreams
The only downside to these tablets is that they've given me hives/welts on both my hands. weird because they're only on my hands. they're kind of like little sacs of itchy fluid peppered around my palms and fingers, each about the circumference of the nib of a ballpoint pen. There are also these red spots that have become more visible today, it's almost as if they're under the epidermis though, unlike a mosquito bite. It's also around mid-30 degree(C) weather over here in Melbourne, pretty damn hot, so that may be an aggravating factor.
I woke up yesterday morning (after taking 4 Kalms tablets the previous night) with itchy bumps on my hands but thought little of them. I took only one tablet last night, I needed help to get to sleep and also wanted to discern whether it actually was these Kalms tablets that my body was reacting to. Turns out it was.
These "Kalms" pills contain:
- Passiflora Incarnata (Passionflower) (as conc dry extract) equiv herb fl. fruit dry = 200mg
- Scutellaria lateriflora herb (Scullcap) (as conc dry extract) equiv dry herb = 150mg
- Gentiana Lutea root & rhizome = 60mg
- Humulus Lupulus fruit (Hops) (as dry conc) = 60mg
- Avena Sativa herb (< I know what you're thinking, I wish it too) (Oats) (as conc dry extract) equiv fresh herb = 20mg
- Valeriana Officinalis herb (Valerian) (as conc dry extract) equiv dry root = 60mg
So...anybody else had allergic reactions to any of the above herbs like mine? my hands are itchy as balls. Wanking last night was fun though, it was doubly pleasurable
I'd been using "Night Tea", bought from Happy High Herbs to help me sleep before I got hold of these pills, but it seemed to have similar effects, probably because the main ingredient of both products is passionflower. The Night Tea was an herbal powder made up of passionflower and this other not so well known plant "Erythrina Mulungu" (my naturopath didn't even know of it). Again, this tea would sedate me, but my mind would still be racing from hours of study that day, which could have aided the CEVs I'd get whenever I attempted to drift off. With both the Kalms pills and the Night Tea, if I don't fall asleep within the first half hour or so of their effect, they tend to then have an opposite psychostimulating effect on me. If I were to be asleep before this psychostimulation, I would guess that it would be at this stage that the vividity of my dreams would dramatically increase. I still remember one of my dreams from a couple of nights ago, one of the most vivid I've ever had, I also had a couple before then with the Night Tea where I dreamt of people who I ran into during the following days, this wouldn't have meant much ordinarily, but these were people I wouldn't normally see, which made the sense of deja vu that little bit weirder..
Anyway, I realize I've been ranting, sorry.
So I'll leave you with my ultimate questions here to prevent you from having to wade through the sewerage above:
1. Does anyone else get stimulating effects from these herbs(forgive my ignorance, but are they all classified as herbs?)?
2. Has anyone else reacted to these herbs as I have(itchy rash/welts/hives/(red spots as of today) on hands)?
3. Does anyone else have difficulty sleeping after taking ginkgo that day?
christ I hope this itchy rash/these itchy bumps/welts/fluid sacs are an allergic reaction to these Kalms tablets and not something like Hepatitis A
Anyway, I'd better resume my study.. You guys never cease to provide me with countless avenues of procrastination

Guys, I'm pretty sure I've figured out the cause of my allergc reaction.
It wasn't the Kalms pills.
It was a Rhus tree we have in our backyard, which I remember having my hands on the other night (as if only your hands would react to a pill )
Anyone else allergic to this tree? Apparently it's toxic, and hails from SE Asia, it's also everywhere here in Melbourne, much to my misfortune
