When you have nothing to lose, you can truly live.
    #11418185 - 11/09/09 11:30 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I've seen two sides of the coin in my experience with Humans. There are those that believe in a God, Higher Power, System of Order, Karma, etc but namely an afterlife....

And those that either do not believe explicitly or are indifferent to the idea, there seems to be only one main common mode operandus. See below.

For the Believers in Orthodox Dogma

Sitting around, waiting on death, following the virtues of Jesus. Lookin forward to those pearly gates and eternal bliss so they don't have to deal with arthritis and worry about stretching that social security check so thin any longer.

Spending all my time, telling others what's waiting for them on the other side. Turning lives to jesus and getting sinners to repent. Rejoicing in the name of the lord for salvation is thine.

For the indifferent or Non-believers.

Experience life in all it's splender and majesty because this could be as good as it gets and may be all that there is. (Unless....)

But I have rarely encountered the polar opposite.

Why should I care or even try there's no afterlife? Fuck it. I give up.

After going through a period in my life when I hit rock bottom and had nothing to lose, I found that it helped me wipe the slate clean. I have stuff to lose now, but I appreciate it.

Beleiver or non-beleiver, blah, they're both beleivers
Dis-beleif is still clinging furiously to beleif
Just look at all the 'non-beleiver' posts round here, if they truly did not beleive beyond doubt, they would not post in the first place...

'When you have nothing to lose, you can truly live'

When you see that you can lose nothing, that the universe has no 'gain' or 'loss'
Then there is nothing to lose, then you can truly live

The slate is ever clean

i always thought it meant losing all your possessions will make you a free man.
because no matter what you do, you truly have nothing left to lose.

For that to be true you'd have to commit suicide as this body is a possession aswell

Renunciation is not renouncing possessions, it is being not attached to them

Surrendering everything to the universe

That's because they committed suicide before you could have encountered them.

As long as you're alive, you'll always have something to lose (e.g.- your life).

Once you are dead, there is nothing you can gain or lose; there is no more "you" after death. :satansmoking:
