How To Really Use Karma?
    #11414655 - 11/08/09 09:52 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

What goes around comes around right?

Well, couldn't I just use this to truly live however I want, right?

Like I want to travel as a hobo, couldn't I just give away all my possessions and then they would somehow come back to me?

for example: I give someone 100 dollars randomly, should I expect this to come back to me?

how does Karma work explain...

Karma

It doesn't work that way at all, it is more based on how you treat others and things like that...basically there will always be consequences for how you treat people.

See, I like Bill Hicks conception of reality that all matter is just energy condensed to a slow vibration and that we are one consciousness subjectively experiencing itself...

Therefore the law of Karma should apply somehow to the physical world...If one truly understood how it worked then one should theoretically be able to obtain literally anything including physical objects, not just treatment from other people

I'd say it was simply a social control used to prevent uprising by and allow discrimination against the poor, while installing priests at the highest political positions. Similar to the ambition of the early and middle ages Church.

Edit: Also I don't understand what enables the jump from all matter being a consciousness experiencing itself to karma should get you things back.

The way i understand it is that Karma is the result of the law of cause and effect. I believe ther are four sorts of karmic deeds.
  • Good deed & good intention = positive karma
  • Good deed & bad intention = less negative karma
  • Bad deed & good intention = less positive karma
  • Bad deed & bad intention = negative karma

The most important thing to remember is the intention, not so much the actual action.

No.  If you make a habit of giving to others, though, it will be more likely for someone that you benefited to eventually return the favor.  This is not guaranteed.  Similarly, if you make a habit of mistreating others, it will be more likely for someone that you hurt to take vengeance back on you, but it's not completely assured.

Internal guilt over actions that you've committed also are manifestations of Karma.

Karma is nice if you believe that good and evil exist beyond the concept of the human mind. Doing something with an expectation of something in return seems like really childish to me. People shouldn't expect anything from the universe but perhaps only accept what is. I wouldn't live my life donating all my possessions to the church expecting to get into heaven in return. I don't help people out expecting my luck to take a good turn in the future. I do what I do to help others because I want them to be happier.

Positive and negative are only perceived notions of the experience at the moment though your view. You might have a bit of bad luck and drop a twenty dollar bill, well that's a negative for you but not for the kid who finds it. You could look at the situation as "I lost my money" or "I gave a kid an awesome week with 20$." Some shithead gets the promotion at your work instead of you, but later in the future you find out that such a job is total bullshit and over stress, you're going to get a better job anyways.

To me karma seems far to egocentric, everything revolves around what I do and what I expect in return.  The universe doesn't care what I do, why I do it, how it's done nor is it going to somehow return to me the intentions of my actions or whatever. Life should be about helping others for simply helping others even if you eat shit and not expecting a damn thing in return.  Though, the universe Shouldn't do a damn thing, only do what it is.

Apparently some people believe that your current life, the body you have and the circumstances in which you are born, are the result from previous actions, and thus Karma.

Apparently some people have merely adopted this idea without thinking it through.

Here is an actual photo of a buddhist monk destroying his karma in the guise of another buddhist monk who just happened to come along.

No really.
