They make some kind of really bitter clear coat for your nails that you might want to try out.

I have same habit, my nails never grow past my finger tips

Wipe your ass and don't wash your hands. That should break the habit or make you really sick :awesome:

Oh dude, I know what you mean. I'm totally vicious to my poor cuticles sometimes. Usually I'll start when I'm watching a movie and by the end of the movie, my fingers are bloody and sore. Sucks ass.

I think it just takes control. Just realize that you're doing it and make a conscious effort to put your hands where you can't get at them i.e sit on them, shuffle cards, whatever.

Nail biting is a tough habit to break. Go with the bitter stuff here, operant conditioning.

i never bite, but lately i cant stop excessivly cracking my fingers & toes. i can do it soo often like over and over without having to wait for a "recharge" and my joint cracks are so loud they sound like gunshots haha... its funny how i can make ppl cringe.

but what started as teasing turned into a lame habit

I bite my nail but I never considered it a problem until I started working. Now is seems like it gets worse every year.

I'm at the point were if I'm not biting my nails I'm usually checking/playing with them :nonono:

I doubt the bitter nail stuff would help. I've painted my nails in the past and it didn't deter me.

I used to bite my nails all the time up till about middle school or somethin, but once i let them grow out so you could see like a half centimeter of the white, it just killed the urge somehow. Now ive got a problem with letting them get too long before i cut them, and biting them leaves jagged edges which i despise.

The current habit im tring to break is a nervous habit of pulling/brushing my mustache/beard and plucking single wayward hairs, but theres ALWAYS a wayward hair, so after a while of this i accidentally thin out the area way too bad. Really pisses me off, and its a strong habit for some reason. Ill notice im doin it and put my hand down, try an do somethin else, then in like 15-20min i realize im doin it again. could be the stress

I have always bitten my nails.

Somehow in the last year I have managed to stop.I dunno how but I did.

I still obsessively bite my lip though. This one is proving to be a little harder to crack.

cracking your knuckles is perfectly safe.  it's not that lame of a habit.  it feels quite good to me.  first thing i do in the morning is press my fingers together and bend the palm up 90 degrees to crack all my main knuckles.

i'm a biter as well.  though it's not too terrible.  i don't often bite them till they're sore unless i'm really nervous.  usually i just bite them to trim off the white part.  so they never, ever have been past my fingertips.

my toes i pick with my fingers.  my big toe toenails are really short.  like i don't think i could even let them grow normally because the skin past the tip of the nail is raised out further than the nail.
