What's really interesting is I was reading a book this summer. One of the primary points it made was how large governmental structures (i.e. Washington monument, the Wall, Lincoln Memorial, Pentagon, White House) had large amounts of land mass around them and none were clustered together.
The whole purpose is that when there's a giant offensive launched on US soil, there's still plenty of room for defense vehicles to deploy and protect the governmental structures and figureheads.
Had never thought of that before.
