aquariums monotub style
    #11417388 - 11/09/09 10:52 AM (7 years, 11 months ago)

I was just cucious is anyone has ever tried to use an big aquarium monotub style? I see large ones for free on craigslist all the time. Buying the tub 10$ plus the plexiglass (7$) really starts to add up. But I don't see why a 30 gallon aquarium couldn't do the same things. I searched around a bit but found nothing.

that would work just fine. the only thing is you can drill holes in it, and you would still have to buy a lid of some kind. also a big aquarium like that would be kind of hard to keep out of the way. i mean sure, if  you don't mind having your hobby out for everybody to see then its fine, but i know personally i don't like everybody that comes over to my house to see my myco studies. but try it out and see what happens:laugh:

Buy a clear tub with a clear lid. Problem solved for $8.

Well... drilling glass is not easy either.
For not much more than the plexiglass, you could just buy a sheet of window glass and lay it across the top of an ordinary tub. Put tape on the edges to avoid cuts.

Glass can also be sanded smooth on the edges rather easily. Use a block of wood instead of your bare hands. 120 grit works nicely. Takes about ten minutes to really smooth it well.

you just need the right bit and it's not cheap, a coring bit for glass and
tile can run from $30-$500, need to keep the bit cool and use a slow drill
speed, the little spade bits are pretty useless for $8, the often break
the glass which means you spend the $8 and have to buy a new 30gal tank
or the plastic tubs and the plexi anyway
