and he grants you the ability to change to and from animal form at will.
if you were only able to choose 1 animal, what would it be?
if you were able to choose 3 animals, what would they be?
and lastly, 5 animals?
in choosing these animals, please bear in mind that real world physics apply in every other form beyond your actual transformation. you can't expect to cross the ocean as a freshwater aquatic creature, nor could you expect to fly across it without rest. some animals simply would not be able to venture into cooler climates. there are no magic clothes that transform with you. you either rip out of them, or they fall off of you, depending on the size of your creature[s].
also consider the real world applications of your animal[s] of interest. you most likely wouldn't want other people to know you have this ability, as that would almost certainly lead to gov't interest and quite likely loss of freedom. you can choose extinct species, even dinosaurs, but again keep in mind the consequences of choosing such a high profile creature.
lastly, be very specific. don't just say "a bird" or "a monkey". specify down to the exact species and why you chose it. i listed my choices in order of importance. so #1 would be my choice if i only get one and #1-3 are my choices if i only get 3.
my list: 1. Osprey - the ability to fly is key. i chose the osprey over other birds as it occurs on every continent except antartica, so it'd be less likely to raise suspicion and it's a migratory bird that travels an average of 165mi/day, and up to 250mi/day. also, it's a fairly large raptor, so it's less likely to be fucked with.
2. House Fly - this is for those disappearing acts and getting into places i'm not supposed to be.
3. Siamang (gibbon) - smaller and more agile than a chimpanzee, yet large enough to wear a small backpack. this too is for getting into places i shouldn't be, while being able to actually carry things out. opposable thumbs, ftw.
4. Orca - i need some form that'll allow me to cross the oceans, right? the killer whale is common in every ocean. it has no predators except the occasional man. and it has even been spotted in fresh waters, so it's quite versatile.
5. White Rhino - this is like my "if all else fails" animal to fall back on.

1 - Octopus
2 - spider
3 -
4 - scorpion
5 - poison dart frog
I think I have most of my bases covered but I'm missing an animal that flys... the couple I could think of are mythological animal so I don't think they count.

cosmic, you'd make an octopus your number one choice? so like.. if you can only turn into 1 animal, it'd be an octopus? that's interesting. not exactly a practical transformation.
kanglow... you seemed to have just chosen rather strange/unique animals. again, i'm struggling with seeing the practical application of being able to turn into a platypus.
btw, ligers so don't count. real animals only.

No real practical application of being a platypus, I just think they live in a nice habitat. I personally wouldn't mind spending my life as a platypus. Not too mention they are poisonous.
Last time I checked, Ligers are VERY REAL. You probably shouldn't base your Liger knowledge on Napoleon Dynamite.... lol

Liger are real animals... at least as real as mules
And yes if I could be one animal it would be an octopus I could fit almost anywhere I could change color I could mimic other animals I could climb stuff with my tentacles I could communicate at a glance I could glow

but you'd pretty much be confined to water while in that form.
i mean, don't get me wrong, octopuses are cool, no doubt. i'm actually considering incorporating one into the design i'm working on for a forearm sleeve. it was just an interesting choice to me as your primary animal considering the environmental limitations.

Thats a hard question. Its primarily consciousness that interests me - experiencing the mindstate and their world.
1..Homo Erectus (2.000.000 BC)
Homo erectus was probably the first hominid to live in an hunter-gatherer society, and anthropologists such as Richard Leakey believe that it was socially more like to modern humans than the more Australopithecus-like species before it. Likewise, increased cranial capacity generally coincides with the more sophisticated tools occasionally found with fossils. I choose this hominid over all pre-human ancestors as apes went before it (Australopithecus) and the human "magic"that started in H.Erectus merely was improved on in later species.
2..Mountain Gorilla in natural habitat w/o humans (most preferred)
Travelling through the lush rainforest with your friends and family, vegetarian, no natural enemies. A comfortable life spent socializing and lazing around. Intelligent enough to enjoy it but dumb enough not to get bored.
3.. Bottle-nosed Dolphin (Ocean)
Swimming like a fish in the ocean with your buddies, yet with a highly complex inquisitive mammal brain under the bonnet
4..My Cat (before he got sick and died)
Living much of my life in an interesting outdoor urban environment full of rival cats and a much sought after strategically located territory, yet at any time able to meow at the window and be let into a world of yummy catfood, central heating, interesting vantage points to observe and sleep without fear, and human love and petting that could go on for hours on end.
5..Albatross (in the wild)
Flying would be great, and few are as good at it as the Albatross. Albatrosses are amongst the largest of flying birds, and the great albatrosses (genus Diomedea) have the largest wingspans of any extant birds. Albatrosses are highly efficient in the air, using dynamic soaring and slope soaring to cover great distances with little exertion. They feed on squid, fish and krill by either scavenging, surface seizing or diving. Albatrosses are colonial, nesting for the most part on remote oceanic islands, often with several species nesting together. Pair bonds between males and females form over several years, with the use of 'ritualised dances', and will last for the life of the pair. A breeding season can take over a year from laying to fledging, with a single egg laid in each breeding attempt.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Also their brain is the same size as ours. I'm not exactly sure what it's capable of though? Don't they have their own language using sonar sounds as well?
