Problem with Lions Mane
    #11411767 - 11/08/09 03:01 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Hi guys, been having some trouble trying to grow Lions mane, here is what I did:

So I Took some Oak Shavings and Pasturized them, put them in a Laundry Basket and put in some Lions Mane Plugs. I then covered the whole thing and put it in a dark place. Also, the plugs where sterile when I put them in(Fungi Perfecti).

The Basket seems to be doing nothing, the Mycelium is not spreading, I did Oysters in the same way and they worked great with this setup.
Whats going on? thanks for any help.

Ok thanks noobie, I'll try that.

Temps are in the 60s, about the same air exchange, I have a plastic bag with holes in it, and the plugs were healthy.

I had a lion's mane kit from fungi perfecti this spring and i noticed that the bag hardly looked colonized at all when compared to species like oysters, or stropharia. The mycelium was way more wispy and did not seem to cover the entire bag. But the it fruited great! had about 4 flushes too.

So maybe the mycelium is there in your basket, but just not as thick as you are used to seeing with the oysters.

Cheers,
