Maybe Amanitas and Boletes
    #11407450 - 11/07/09 07:57 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Spotted these from my car, growing on a suburban grass verge.  One of them is spongy underneath and the other looks Fly Agaricish and is falling apart - no visible spore print as yet.  Sorry these are phone pictures, but as the shrooms are big they might be clear enough.

Your boletes are a mix of Leccinums and Tylopilus, need better pictures to tell which species.
Your Amanita looks to be muscaria var. persicina, What state did you collect these in?

Thanks, I'll look those up and tomorrow I can get my camera.  These are in the UK.

While I'm still stuck with phone pics I'll use this thread for another ID request and get better images of everything when I can.

The habitat is a UK riverside oaky forest.  Mushy.  I didn't see many mushrooms although I didn't get much under the leaves.

Not sure about these, maybe mycena, I don't think they're nice looking:

I know these shots are horrible but with help from Google I think these things are Xylaria hypoxylon:

This was growing alone:

Growing from an old felled trunk:

I was hoping those might be gyms but I expect disappointment.  Quite yellowy stems, like the caps, bruising to rust.  There's a hint of olives in the yellow and the gills.  Spore print hopefully pending.

#1 Mycena sp.
#2 Sorry, can't really tell from those pics.
#3 Pluteus, I think. Was it growing from wood?
#4 Hypholoma sp., possibly Hypholoma fasciculare, poisonous.

Hypholoma fasciculare. I find they are a pretty common species.

Grrr, and thank you both very much.  I was so looking forward to going back and picking those Gyms deadly Hypholoma fasciculare.

It might have been since so much of the ground in that area was dominated by tree roots, but it seemed to grow from the ground near a tree base.  I've got some more for ID'ing but perhaps I should leave it alone until I have the camera.

Thanks again.
