Aspen Pet Bedding - add some moist verm?
    #11410796 - 11/08/09 01:52 PM (8 years, 13 days ago)

If you were preparing aspen pet bedding chips by boiling, would you add some verm too?
Or do you think the wood chips will absorb enough water?

...And does anybody think Panellus stipticus LC will take hold on aspen chips? I'll know in a week or so.

Meh, I'm trying it with the verm. Can't believe it will hurt anything.

It couldn't hurt, especially if you're going the pasteurization route and not adding wheat germ and other goodies to the mix. Did you toss in sawdust and gypsum?

No gypsum, but I put a teaspoon of lemon juice in the boil water. Boiled the chips, hydrated the verm manually like doing cakes. Then mixed it all together and put it in jars.
It's in the PC, but you think pasteurization would be better? They are pretty small chips, I think they will get sterile all the way through.
