Complete beginner with good results *warning: lots of photos*
    #11410585 - 11/08/09 01:00 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

P. Cubensis PES Amazonian race from SporeWorks, arrived in three days to Asia, pretty amazing. The substrates are from Mushbox and no failure so far

My first ever and kinda scrappy set up:

And they grew healthy:

Consumption was not the priority, spreading in the nature where they haven't existed was:

Look like home made biscuits:

And the remains:

Invested a little for the future hobby, still less than $250 all together:

Thermometer and hygrometer:

Air pump:

Terranium heater and air hose:

6000K lights:

Fogger:

And of course bags of perlite in kitchen.

Next up is Puerto Rican race, can't wait to use the new aquarium as the terranium... I will have more pics on them once they grow.

Congrats on the harvest. good luck with the next. Any reason there is no perlite in your first tub?

It looks like there's a pool of water at the bottom of that FC. I know of a friend who did that once, used stagnant water for humidity, I just figured it would be a hotbed for contam growth.

It took me a while to figure out what they are called in Chinese. Now I know where to get them, it will be there. The standing water did not help with humidity at all, but seem to have collected a lot of spores. Later I used that water to spread some more spores into the nature.

Yeah I used the grill pod to keep them away from touching the water so I never had contamination issues but I don't doubt that it would contaminate the cakes if it touched them. I don't advise anyone to follow what I did, as it did not do anything with humidity... Only thing that kept the cake moist was my regular spraying from bottle.

Did you put spores onto manure? Or straw? I doubt that sporing dirt / grass would yield much, if at all.

if your going to invest 250 dollers i would invest in 18-21 gallon tubs, 1 quart jars, bird seed, pressure cooker, gypsum, coir, 5 gal buckets etc

Not bad, everything I have ever got from Mushbox has been absolute garbage, tons of contamns...shitty all around...and no refunds.

So try making your own bags and you will probably get a much greater yield. Either way, you did good. I prefer fungifarmer.com for my substrate...

Thanks all for the comments.

I spread the spores next to cow dungs, some fresh, some dried, some in between, and some around dead plants and woods. Prints from about 40 mushroom divided in about 5 gallons.

The cakes bruised due to hard spraying directly on to them, as well as lack of air (the photo has airpump but I got it just when I took the photo, which was at second flush).

Sorry, on other forums like game forums, they tend to complain a lot if there are like 5 photos that are bigger than 1024x768 so I decided to put the 'warning' ;-/

I would love to invest in casing method, pressure cooker and so on, but houses start around 1 million USD here, well over 5 million USD if you want to stay within the city limits, which means I don't live in one and I don't have big kitchen nor a garden. Being stuck in a 600 usable square foot apartment flat makes big pressure cookers very unwieldly and hard to store. I will try to DIY the substrate jars soon with perhaps smaller pc, but first few runs I would do with pre-made stuff. Also carrying around a lot of manure and straw sacks and lab equipment may attract unwanted attention around here, where I will be with at least a dozen strangers in a 100 square yard (10 by 10) at any given minute...

Yeah I heard a lot of negatives about Mushbox / Spores101, but my first and only purchase was good so far, I will give a few different vendors a try too for the pre-made stuff, until I am able to make a well sterilized ones myself.

ahhh!! I do want to move back to the states but can't at the moment.

However I do like the fact that not many people here have any clue what active mushrooms are. I think there has only been one case in the past decade where someone got caught trafficking dried mushrooms. It happened couple years ago and it was because he had several pounds of cocaine and other narcotics with him...
