Or offer a link as to what the defining features are for edibility with these parasol type Lepiota's/Macrolepiotas ?, assuming that's what they are..

If it's not that simple tell me to go away and fill out ID descriptions,,.

http://www.mushroomexpert.com/macrolepiota_procera.html
http://www.mushroomexpert.com/chlorophyllum_rhacodes.html

For me it's fairly easy to identify them in the field. Simply because I've been hunting them every year ever since I was about 2 or 3 years old and there are no poisonous lookalikes to the shaggy parasols here. We basically have C. rhacodes and C. brunneum (both stain orange-reddish when cut) and M. procera (does not stain reddish) and all of them are excellent edibles. Since you are in the same climate zone of Europe more or less the same is true for you as well. The poisonous Chlorophyllum venenata (and also C. molybdites) like it warm. You won't find them at this time of year that far in the north.
However, they look a bit old. The lighter the gills still the better they are.

Thanks man, i went back to the patch just now and the older ones smelt a bit funky so i left them. I have a couple of fresher caps that smell nice and mushroomy.

I threw them out since they were full of bugs, i would have fried them by themselves for a first taste.
They smell quite like field mushrooms so i'm guessing they taste similar.

At least i know where i can find more,,.

Nah they don't really remind me of agaricus... I assume that's what you meant - to me they seem much better - hard to describe but they have a great texture, great appearance, and nice taste.

lol they just smell mushroomy to me, maybe i'm not the best judge of smell.
Yeah i was meaning Agaricus..

I cut them to see if they stained red and the cap was full of tunnels and little weird things falling out,, i don't mind the odd bug but i'm not that strong stomached,,..

Ah, just got what you meant,, taste wise they're different. I'm trying to do too many things at once plus eat my dinner,,.

I'll have to wait and see for myself,,.

I'm trying to pick up were i left off 3 years ago with non actives, i'm planning some woodland hunts soon and i'll no doubt put a thread together with everything i find.
I've already found some nice looking specimens..

I always batter the caps in bread crumbs and fry them up like that. Delicious.
