Ultrasonic Terrarium

This is The Ultrasonic Fogger I received today sitting in about 1.5 inches of water and producing a really thick fog...

I basically plan to use it the same way as 'the bubbleh humidifier'. I am going to have a fishtank heater in the water, the same way he does, along with a bubble stone for air exchange (which he didn't use).

I will start building the actual terrarium soon, and keep pictures posted, I have some ideas.

Anyone have suggestions?

I have something similar in use.

My goal was this:

But my fog producing capacity wasn't enough to handle a system that size.

So I took it apart and built this instead (for the mean time).

5 gallon bucket.  3 holes in the lid.  1 hole for the fan.  1 hole for the fogger cord (taped shut) and 1 hole with a 1" clear vinyl food grade tube (not pictured there).

I just have the bucket sitting on a table next to the tub with a digital timer to control it.  5 mins on 20 times a day (a little less then once an hour).

In that time it completely 100% fills up the tub with fresh humidied air.

I'd post some pics but my camera broke in an unfortunate accident involving me trying to photograph a rather large hornet who became upset at my proximity.

Here we go.  Video function still works on my cam, just can't take pics. Shutter mechanism is dead.

Extremely cool, do you just have holes in the lid for air exchange?

Using any heaters or water in the bottom of the terrarium?

That's a monotub, not a terrarium although I spoze there's not a whole lot of difference.

6, 2" holes.  I pop 2" circular soffit vents in there when I'm ready to fruit.

I normally mist 2-3x a day, but trying this as an automated setup.

I was planning on putting around 3 inches of water in the bottom of the tub, with a fish tank heater and bubble stone. Then put holes in the lid of the tub, with the fogger hose directly over the mushroom shelf.. The shelf being what the mushrooms sit on above the water.

What do you think?

My main concern would be fresh air intake.  My system sucks in fresh air, adds fog to it, then blows it into my monotub.

I add a small amount of bleach (less then 1%) to keep the water fresh.

All you need is a bucket with lid, a fan and some tubing.

I used an old cell phone charger adapter to power the fan.

Then a digital timer to automatically turn it on about 5 mins/hour.

Well, like in 'teh bubbleh' guide, an air pump will be used in place of your fan, and an air pump will be running the bubble stone directly in the water of the tank.. Fresh air should be no problem.

I used messed around with those air pumps when I first got started.  They just don't put out enough air to do much unless you're using one of the giant ones for huge fish tanks.

It might work, especially you're talking about a very small scale setup, 1 small tray or a couple pf cakes.

My tubs have ~15 quarts of substrate in them each.  I'm very interest/excited to see how well they do under more optimal conditions.

I will be doing around 8-12 1/2 pint cakes. Going to try to keep conditions as great as possible.

Could you filter that air instead of using bleach?

I suppose you could install a hepa filter, but then you'd need a much stronger fan.

Also, what will keep contams from simply growing inside of the bucket then getting passed to your tubs.

Bleach isn't harmful to mycelium though and it's cheap and easily available.

Agreed. I have an ultrasonic that quit after about 2 weeks because of that. I'm still trying to figure out how to clear it off. Maybe a little CLR or something like that.

this one i had running for several years with no issues. you would have to tweak things here and there. but worked out well to fill 6 closet or greenhouse like chambers. you could also rig something like this to big room you make out of pvc pipe frame and clear plastic.
