I've been growing it, and it is flowering, forming seed pods, and then the seed pods seem to fall off unripened with no seeds in them. Just recently I found one little small seed pod that had some nice seeds in it - but what would be causing this?
Am I missing a nutrient, or what?
Is this a sign of some disease, disorder, maltreatment, etc?
My commercial tobacco plant is also doing this...! Why?
It sounds like they haven't been fertilized (sexually that is), so when the ovaries go to ripen, the seeds can't mature. Sort of like how women have periods every month. So what you need to do is hook your plants up with some bees to move pollen to pistils, or get a paint brush and do it yourself (this sounds like the route you'll have to take). I'm not sure if Sida is selfing, so it'll be best to transfer between two different plants. Most plants will set more seed if they're cross pollinated anyway. Sort of like how sex is better than masturbating.
