they are porcini, or one of the similar species.
either way, they are great to eat.

So stoked!
An online fresh wild mushroom vendor from Oregon sells these porcini for $22 a pound!
I found about 2.2 pounds! That's $45 worth of FREE porcini!
THANK YOU GAIA!!!!

A couple blocks away from my house at this park.
Easy access through a not-easy-to-spot grassy path that leads to a mushroom wonderland! I found yellow amanitas there earlier in the season.
There were literally thousands of mushrooms in this one part of the forest. At least 20+ different varieties. I'm going back tomorrow with a camera to take pics and collect some more boletes we couldn't carry today.

Weeeellllll....
Instinct tells me to prepare like I do most wild mushrooms.
Shit-ton of garlic, usually elephant garlic cause its easier to peel.
Sauteed for 6-8 minutes with some olive oil.
Add some tasties like rosemary & thyme (not too many herbs, the gf isn't too herby)
When there is about 2-3 minutes left I add in the good stuff like a little bit of soy sauce and a dash of red-wine cooking sherry.
Depending on what we got I may add a quick mix of some kinda juicy sauce. Right now I think we have been using dabs of this brown wassabi stir-fry sauce that has been BOMB with the wild chanterelles we have obtained locally.
Usually served as is or over some plain long-grain white rice.
Long-grain rice has hella-protein compared to normal rice, good for us vegetarians.
Maybe served with a side of steamed asparagus w/ a squirt of lemon on top.
Oh man....
