Need one Moderator for this forum
    #1140621 - 12/19/02 01:40 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Hi all, if you are interested in helping moderate this forum, please reply to this post and let me know.

Some requirements we ask of our potential mods:

1. That you check in a few times daily.
2. An even temperment, fairness.

Also anyone can nominate people they feel will do a good job.

I'll leave this up for 3 days.

I have read a lot of HTownKids posts and he is always mellow and even tempered. I think he would make a great mod.

I have my own strong political views, but I still believe I can be fair in the sense that I don't believe in silencing the opposition, and I can control my temper. Just one thing: What exactly does a moderator do?

Define "moderate." Does this mean interfering if a user is getting out of hand or something?

Move/lock threads, mostly. I've very rarely seen a mod call someone out for being out of hand, aside from posting chem sources in other drugs.

Sounds like something I could do. I nominate myself.

You must be clairvoyant, Buddha.

Jammer and Superpimp were both pretty good moderators, and they sort of balanced each other -- one tended to lean left, one right, but I never saw that influence their moderating actions. Neither posted very much, they both mostly just observed. I miss them.

I nominate pinksharkmark for his intelligence and even temper. I think he would make a fine moderator. There are also some others that I would have nominated but we only need one.

As an aside I think that those that bid for power make poor leaders. I am not maligning anyone who spoke up because you asked them to.

Good luck to the forum and may you find a fair person to help!

Cheers,

I would like to nominate myself for the job as well...I make no secret about my beliefs, but if Pinky is in there, we need a counter balance for his warped view on things....

Buddha gets my nomination.

An unbalanced, extreme right-winger like pinky as the moderator for a political board is a non-starter.

Rono or Pinksharkmark are the best ones that have posted in this thread so far. some of the people that want to be moderators are too new and wouldn't make as good a moderator.

Buddha would not be a good choice for a moderator IMHO...

Pinksharkmark is the only sensible choice if he wants the job. Rono would be my second choice.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. LOL!

Now why arn't I surprised to hear you say that? Pink would be the worst choice imaginable.

Buddha or Rono are fair enough.

I agree with Innvertigo, Rono or Pinksharkmark are the best candidates for moderator that have posted in this thread so far.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I thank those who nominated me and appreciate their comments, but I must apologize for not having added to my previous post that I am not interested in moderating this forum.

I realize there are many moderators who feel comfortable being frequent contributors to the same forum they moderate, and I wish I could feel that same comfort, but I think I'd prefer to be able to respond to whichever post I want, in whatever manner I want, without any restraining influences over and above the rules of the forum.
