You should remake your spawn. PCing it more than once could likely through off the moisture content. I would prepare new grains. But to answer your question, no they are not any more likely to get contaminated than they were after the first time they were sterilized (assuming you sterilized correctly). I have sterilized jars with nasty molds and left them sitting around for a while before actually throwing it away, and the jars never grow anything. I can still see the nasty mold, but its dead along with everything else.

as long as you PC'd them they will be fine
next time i suggest you PC them before you dump them out
to prevent the spores from spreading

I also recommend that. I never open moldy jars that haven't sterilized.

not all contams are harmful but its better to be safe

I have just been throwing out contamed jars but it seems to me like it is too wasteful now.
How long should I pc contamed jars for before I can open and then clean them?

you seriously pc every single contaminated jar?
shit that sounds like a lot of wasted gas/stove time. i know spores are sticky and they go everywhere and whatever but seriously...i NEVER pc contaminated jars. i simply go outside and toss the shit in the corner of my yard then hose the jars off. i am seriously blown away hearing all the people that waste their time pcing jars that have contamination.
waste of time.

yea true it might of been a waste of time but its better that way than to bring what ever mold that's growing in them into my house where my whole family could get sick..=)

I don't get very many contaminated jars, hardly any really. I don't take any extra time to sterilize one or two contam jars a month, it just goes in the PC along with the rest of my shit. I don't have a yard to throw shit so everything is disposed of inside. I can't have a mold infestation in a one bedroom apt. It's not a waste of time though.

I'd like to PC bad jars, but I just can't stand the smell of cooked mold. :argh:

Many new growers think this way during their first six months or so. They're usually the ones who have 'every single jar contaminate' in their second six months, lose interest and quit the hobby.

Live spores will stick to your clothes, body, shoes, etc., and be brought back inside.  A few times dumping out contaminated jars and you'll have a very hard time growing successfully due to the ambient mold spore count.

Depending on how you do the math, it's best to either toss out contaminated jars, or PC them before opening up to dump.  If you're following proper technique, you won't get more than a few per year, so it's not really a big time or cost issue.

The bottom line is if you're opening up moldy jars to dispose of the contents anywhere near your work area, or you go near your growing area after dumping the jars, you won't be successful for very long.

been doing it this way for over a year now. i get a couple contaminated jars out of each batch. perhaps that is why.
i guess i would still prefer to get a few fucked jars each time than have to run my pc for another hour each time.
i wear a mask when i dump them so im not too worried about getting sick.

Lol...you talk about wasting time when about PCing all the contam jars but think about all the time you waste in grain preparation by having to throw away a couple jars from every batch. That would be unacceptable to me. I don't factor in failure to my equation. I try to work the failure out. It doesn't seem logical doing any other way to me. It takes less than 5 minutes to setup the PC and it runs all by its self. All you have to do is shut it off. It's not like you have to monitor it so I don't see where the time is really being wasted.

like this:

or this:

?

because the first one is completely useless for stopping mold spores. in fact,it's pretty useless for stopping pretty much anything except particals that are visible to the naked eye.

truthfully, if you follow great sterile procedure, you could pull of a grow no problem no matter how many mold spores were infesting your house. but most people here dont have sterility down very well, and thus what RR was explaining.

you have the right to use whatever technic you want, but do not tell people to do thing like this. I NEVER open a contamined jar before I pc it. I just put foil over it and store them in an other closet until I have enough to fill the pc for a sterilization batch. Not so much of an hassle
