'You can't actually do this' ? then what is the point? You can do it but you cant actually do it?

I really dont see what that simulation argument has to do with this lol! I disagree with the simulation argument anyway. I don't think there is much reason to believe that we will ever create simulations of a universe with the sort of depth of our own?

God?  Probability?  Sounds like wordplay to me.

The maximally accurate beliefs given a certain set of information is something you cannot, in general, calculate perfectly.

It still the maximally accurate set of beliefs, and it's still important, so you have to try to approximate it. Methods that have nothing to do with occams razor and bayes law will do poorly, so it is important to know how the math behind it works.

Since the question of "probability of god" was brought up, I mentioned the simulation argument, since someone running a simulation is about as close to a god you can actually get.

interesting that you, on the one hand, treat these probability calculations pedantically beyond practicality, but then treat the concept of God as if it is the same as someone running a computer simulation.
btw, you still havn't shown how the number of people in the group makes a difference?

Appeal To Widespread Belief (Bandwagon Argument, Peer Pressure, Appeal to Common Practice)

The claim, as evidence for an idea, that many people believe it, or used to believe it, or do it.

If the discussion is about social conventions, such as "good manners", then this is a reasonable line of argument.

However, in the 1800's there was a widespread belief that bloodletting cured sickness. All of these people were not just wrong, but horribly wrong, because in fact it made people sicker. Clearly, the popularity of an idea is no guarantee that it's right.

Similarly, a common justification for bribery is that "Everybody does it". And in the past, this was a justification for slavery.

I don't see where you think these view points conflict.

And to be clear, I said that the only *coherent* concept of god would be as someone running a computer simulation. Most peoples ideas of god simply are not coherent.

Technically true, but did you *actually read* *anything* I've written???

Go back, reread it all, and if after carefull consideration, it still isn't obvious why you shouldn't be saying that, then I'll try one last time to explain it to you.
