Bulk sub - coconut fiber

Went shopping for a bulk substrate today- came home with these two things
1 2
1 is t-rex jungle bed. its a blend of forest bed, cocnut bark, calci-sand, and vermiculite. its a fine mix not quite powder but thety have the same thing that looks more like little pieces of bark
and 2 is "tropical soil" expandable compressed coconut fiber bedding
anybody ever use these?

i would go w the compressed brick... wen i'm mixin my subs i like to know exactly wuts goin in there, forest bed too vague of a term for me to trust. lol. thats just me tho, i'm sure they'll both work fine tho i would just be sure and pasteurize it real well if u use the jungle bed.

The brick style coir works extremely well. Cut it with about 30% vermiculite, and perhaps a small amount of pasteurized coffee grounds for even better results. Very close to, if not MATCHING manure's performance.

I just picked up a bale of CocoTek for $10 at my local hydroponics store.
If I'm correct, the guy at the store said: Brick = 9qt Bale = 70qt but my numbers might be a little off...

"forest bed" for reptiles usually contains some kind of mulched wood... wouldn't hurt to add it to a sub.. but not ideal as a sole sub. I use wood chips in my outdoor beds all the time.. the myc grows to it. But that's outdoors..
I am familiar with "forest bed".. taken 5 minutes ago:

I actually did the math on this the other day. The large block comes out to be just shy of 60 quarts. I picked up one too at the shop within walking distance of my place. $11 with tax. I don't know why I didn't think to go there before. They also carry about every other substrate material you could ever want.

so once the grain is fully colonized, if you are just using coir how do you apply it to the pasteurized coir. mix it up? spread it on top?
???

actually i didnt order from there. the shipping was outrageous! i got it from greentrees hydroponics. it was a little more per brick but in the end i saved money because the shipping was almost 1/3 of general hydroponics.

I have been in the reptile industry for over ten years and I can say always use the compressed bricks that say coir! Fibre and other products such as Jungle Mix are too bulky. Even the fibre tends to have big chunks and even plastic and leaves. BTW beautiful Ball Python!
