How Does This Procedure Sound?
    #11405308 - 11/07/09 04:26 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

so i was going to case some crumbled brf cakes in 50/50, however i couldnt find peat moss so i bought some organic potting mix that was made with mostly peat moss and shredded bark.

First i dunked the cakes overnight. I prepared my casing mix by mixing half organic potting mix and half fine verm, then i added in a little spent coffee grounds. I then hydrated to field capacity and boiled on the stove for 30 minutes. after it cooled, i put about an inch into a few 5inch round baking trays, then a layer of crumbled cake, then another layer of casing mix. i know this obviously isn't the absolute best procedure ever, but does it sound okay?

Sub-optimal in a number of ways. Which tek were you trying to use?

Well, it doesn't really fulfill the requirements for a properly prepared casing mixture.
Is that enough of a hint for you to find the answer on your own?

Find out what a casing layer should be. And how it should be prepared.
RR's videos are a good place to start. Also, click here: http://www.shroomery.org/20/Casing-Procedures

i found not to crumble cakes unless im spawning to more brf that ive pcd and put into zip lock bags to mix. just fruit your cakes and soak them once your flush is done. you can usually get 3 or 4 flushes out of a good cake. dont be surprised if by your 3rd flush you only have 2 little mushies

It sounds more like you're trying to make a substrate mix.

Also, simply boiling for 30 minutes will not pasteurize your substrate or casing properly which will most likely result in contamination.
