Anyone know what this drill bit is called?
    #11404259 - 11/07/09 01:46 PM (8 years, 17 days ago)

Does anyone know what this drill bit is called?

It looks very handy for making large neat holes in plastic

Hope someone out there knows can't seem to find anything on google yet!

.. but FYI.. they aren't cheap.. and if your looking to make just one size hole, a nice hole saw bit will be more cost effective, and much like douche, provide a clean hole.. but step bits do like 6 sizes of holes.. so that's the benefit.

You can get one at harbor freight if you have one near you for about $7. I have a set from there and they work great on anything plastic!

I have only ever bought the "unibit" brand.. they are expensive.. but I use them, often, on metal.. so it was important to get the higher quality. But any quality bit will work with plastic. For $7 I would buy like 3 sets to have around the house, hadn't looked there

I'm partial to a forstner bit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_bit#Forstner_bit

Great on meta and plastic, but you have to be drilling into a stop-block of some sort, they require quite a bit of pushin. They're useless on plexi though, spade bits work well on that though.
