Something wrong? 8 days in
    #11400782 - 11/06/09 10:28 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

Newer grower, I have 12 substrate jars I made myself using the pf tek method (brown rice flour, vermiculite), followed the method exactly, have good spores I got from a reputable internet site. It's been 8 days and I don't really see much, maybe a little bit of cloudiness and a little colonization but nothing really significant. Could someone look the pictures below and maybe suggest what I could be doing wrong? Thanks.

Take the tin foil off its supposed to be on top of the lids just for PCing to keep water out of the 4 inoculation holes. Also thoes are some damn tall jars using the short 1/2 pints are alot better in many different ways. And 8 days is still or can be early i have had it take 2 weeks to see growth. Also try to keep your colonizing jars 1 foot off the ground they say alot of mold spores and contams are 1 foot from the ground in a house

unless it's glare, 3rd pic: jars 1;2;3 look like they've got coin sized growth, but that foil under the jar might be a problem, as may be the removal process?

Define "reputable Internet site".    It doesn't sound anything like "trusted site vendor".

I found out the hard way when I was just starting out.

As the second jar from the right has it's lid on crooked, you might as well use a still air/glove box to remove all of the tin-foil. Give it a week and pray to the mushroom gods...

You should just be able to rip the tin foil off the tops of the jars just to expose the 4 inoculation holes leaving rest the foil still under the threads of the lids. No need to unscrew the lids

Thanks for the responses, I used a sterile knife and removed the tin foil without opening the lids. Next round will definitely using the 8oz half pint jars, these are actually 12oz jelly jar type. I also attached some pictures on how i have them placed and set up, usually with it closed of course. Any comments? Advice?
