just found this birthing a cake with an uncolonized section. we're approaching week 8 since inoculation

that cake looks very strange.. common black mold usually looks powdery (flat black). no clue what you have there.. try the contam forum.

By the way, the shiny light brown stuff above the black is just chunks of brown rice that i didn't grind well enough. And this jar was done with an inner-reservoir. Might have somethin to do with it...

that does not look like black mold, if it is so slow to colonize possibly some bacterial infection
