Need Identification fast!!!
    #11397909 - 11/06/09 12:42 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

My friend sold me these he said he picked them.  They dont smell that bad either. They also dry to a brown color, but in these pictures they are semi moist, they have only been drying for 4 hrs sitting out in my room.  They are all the same type.  Let me know what you think.

What are those supposed to be and why is it so hard to take non-blurry pictures actually showing details on individual specimen?

Well, I can cope, but it's somewhat lowering the OPs chances of getting a quality ID on those. And I agree with mitchnast. They do look like corts.

I try not to get ticked off by the newbs. They don't mean it they just don't know what they're doing. It's his first post.

My concern: I hope that he didn't eat any. Whenever someone needs an ID, "fast!!!" it always says to me, "I ate some random mushrooms and I'm not sure how much trouble I'm in."

Do not eat them, even if you have the slightest inkling that they may be actives.

someone that just sold you some shrooms that they "picked" just means they needed some cash and they knew just the sucker he could get it from; you don't know what conditions they were growing in, you don't know many variables that could potentially lead to you getting very sick.

and they don't look much like actives anyway

better safe than sorry

If theres an off chance that those bluury purple-orange fatties are some type of gymnopilus, It takes a special kind of crook to ask money for them!
One time i picked a few kilos of G spectabilus, and dried them out, I had a XL freezer bag full, I gave them to some guy who was willing to eat them. He ate the whole thing, and terrorized a tim hortons when he suddenly realized the hysterical nature of doughnuts.
But it should be noted, he consumed over 10-15 dry ounces (probably more, no idea really) and washed it down with a 6 pack.
It took him an hour to eat them all.
So basically, the musrooms posted look poisonous,  The closest active mushroom in apperance (thick stalk, orange gills, shades of purple)  Wouldn't be worth yuour time anyway.
ANd I just want to make it clear, these AREN'T that mushroom.

Good eye... it looks like he actually has a mix of different fungi there. The one in the extreme upper-right with the long stem looks like something different than the fat caps nearby, which in turn look different than the rest towards the middle.

+1. Don't even think about eating these until you get us some clear, close-up pics.. and then we will tell you what you should do with them. Complicating matters further, it looks like you've got different types of mushrooms in that pic; if possible, try and group them as best you can.

step one, do not have the light scource in the background
you want the light shining ON the subject.
the pictures will be way clearer with lots of light, and the subject wont look like its emerging from a nuclear reactor core meltdown.

Good work; good effort.. baby steps. I still can't ID them, but little brown mushrooms (LBM's) aren't my strongest group. Hopefully a TI can help u now.

A couple more tips; not trying to be critical, but the fine details on mushrooms matter.. a lot! It is still hard to see any detail with the new pics, and because the light source is behind your subject, the colors are impossible to make out.

1. For mushroom photos, and photography in general, keep the light source at your back.
2. It would help a lot if you fill out a formal ID request. I have included the form here:

ID REQUEST FORM:
Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color:
Very important!

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

what you do to the kind of punk asses that put people in danger just to make a buck...
when you see him next save some of those that he gave you and tell him:

"man these shrooms were the bomb! i tripped for like 8 hours on these, you should try some for yourself"

you see where this is going...
