You wrote this?  And performed it?

That riff in the beginning is from Jack Mcduff, but I wrote the jazz thing, yeah.

Edit:  Yeah.  I played all of it with a keyboard.

Nice, it's not bad.  Good playing, and the music is good too.  Honestly, it could use some work, but you are onto a good start.  I'm a musician too so let me know if I can help or be a part.

Cool man.  Sounds good.  It's more for writing purposes than producing right now.  But yeah.  some sketchy rhythm problems.

Smitington - I'm fairly busy right now, but what instrument do you play?  Maybe we could collab on something.  I don't know.  What do you think?

Sounds like a great idea!  I play guitar and piano, all I have with me at my apartment is an acoustic and a keyboard though.  I'm also pretty good with writing and music theory.

I like what your onto so far... pretty Funky!

Cypress--I have enjoyed quite a few of the songs you have posted, i dig the jazzy/funky style.

Any artists you could possibly turn me on to in that same genre?

I'd appreciate it..Thanks..

~Ryan

In no particular order...

Jimmy Smith, Billy Larkin, Jack McDuff, Freddy Hubbard, Grant Green, Jimmy McGriff,  Groove Holmes, Booker T. and the MG's and certainly not least, Medeski Martin and Wood.  That's all I can think of right now.

Check out this sloppy attempt.  Ha!  I like the riff, though.

Edit:  Sweet man.  Not sure how to go about this... hmm, do you have any way to record?

I have very basic recording means, but yes, I can record.  Perhaps you could send me a peice that I could record some guitar stuff over.  Would probably require toning down the piano for some passages so we can kind of swap lead.

Well, seeing as how you're from the Mushroom Kingdom, I think we're on dif. time schedules.  But, I'll make something when I wake up in about 10 hours and send it your way.  I can always redo the drums and bass, get everything on point and the tones nice and warm... master it a bit.

Thanks man!  looking forward to it.

Hey Smitington.  Sorry about not making anything to jam on today.  I got caught up moving the piano from the local pub to my room... ha!  Thing has more wobble in it's reverb than a heroin user after a rip.

Here it is:

This song is from Jack McDuff... I like it.

Hey Smitington.  This is just blues in G.  I have two loops in the beginning and then there's a bunch of loops with me on rhythm to tear up with your guitar... It fades out with a piano melody.  There's a melodic theme, but feel free to scrap it all together.  I'm in the right speaker, so if you can pan, go left.  Cheers man.  Have fun

Oh yeah.. piano's way out of tune, but it's pretty cool.

Ight, so I tried multiple times to jam over the track, could never really get one I was too proud of, but I figured I'de let you check out all my attempts, there's some good stuff and bad stuff.  If you were up 2 it you could try to cut out all the good parts and make them into one track... Hopefully you'll get a feel for my style anyways if you check out a few of them.  Definitely not as good as you, haven't played in a while either.  Might work better if we jammed in person, I'm usually better at that kinda thing.  Anyways, here's the collection, sorry for the daunting file size: http://www.mediafire.com/?mmnyzwjmwty

Nice man.

Thanks for doing that, Smitington.  There's lots of good guitar ideas in there.  I don't even know how to play half the chords you threw in there.  I like that part around 3:50 in "out of Tune 1" all the way to the end.  It sounds sick... some Tom and Jerry jazz shit happening.

Yeah.  Laying a track over something somebody already played is tough.  I used to try to do that to get into bands, but they never liked it because it never quite fit in.  Jamming in person is way easier... everyone is responding in real time so there's no need to adapt to a sterile, immobile environment.  It's mutually adaptive.  Nothing really beats it.

Thanks man.  It was fun.  If you ever need a weird guitarist who doesn't like to stay on key just let me know
