ID needed, liberty caps?
    #11397096 - 11/06/09 10:50 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Aight, so i've been wandering around today and stumbled upon something that does indeed look like liberty caps.

The pictures are differnt shrooms but picked from the same batchy-area thing, the quality I have for now suck total buttcrap, i'll find a better camera tomorrow or so, but here's what I can get for now:

  :: edit ::
As they have dried up they have the same color like all other pictures i've seen from liberty caps, so I think it's positive :> will get new pics though

Habitat: Found at a horse training area near a small pond, lots of horse dung around and plenty of mushrooms, only this batch stood out though.

Gills: The gill color is brownish/blackish, free spacing.

Stem: Whitish and brownish, pretty thin/fragile,

Cap: It had rained earlier when I went picking, the caps were dark/brownish when i found them, they seem to be turning a lighter color as they are drying - looking more like pictures i've seen around, with a lighter color on the majority of the cap, while the outline is more of a dark color.

Spore print color: Updating tomorrow

Bruising: No color change has been observed so far

Location: Denmark

Hope anyone can help me out a bit here, thanks in advance.

Looks like Panaeolus Acuminatus but the pictures aren't great.

I have similar mushrooms growing near me. They grow directly out of cow turds and have very rigid, straight, thin stems with nipples on top which are more rounded than most liberty caps. Also, they base of the cap tends not to bend inwards quite as much as with liberty caps and the spore print is black not brown.

Panaeolus Papilionaceus is another similar looking cow crap eater round here except they're more dark grey than brown.

Do they have a separable gelatinous pellicle? They don't really look like libs to me but the fore mentioned question I asked would be one of the things you should be looking for.

I'll take a stab with Psathyrella sp. or maybe a Conocybe sp. especially with a "fragile stem". If you can, use macro function.

Heya, I believe they do have a separable gelatinous pellicle, I saw it come off when they were fresher and I picked one off the paper, and the pellicle came off.

This means? o:

He/she spelled it correctly and obviously has access to Google, so I would assume so. Regardless, I do agree what Fisherman said about it "attaching to the paper" is odd ...

Isn't it a transparent gelatinous layer on the outer side of the cap?

:edit:
The transparent layer came off when I took the mushroom off the piece of paper, which I had laid them all on when i came home, it was kind of sticking to it..

Jah. I assume he asked it rhetorically because (my own experiences and opinion included) usually the pellicle does not come off on its own. I may be quite wrong, but I've not heard of it.

Okay, next thing you'd want to look at is the color of the spore prints, dark purple/brown. Make sure you have all the same kind of mushroom.

I'm flying blind on this, so the identifying is up to you here. Unless you can get clearer pics.
