Oyster mushroom LC and WBS jars
    #11394981 - 11/06/09 01:19 AM (7 years, 11 months ago)

hey so i inoculated this wbs with oyster myc on october 31st. im guessing that the oyster lc is healthy. i had 10ccs so i shot 3.5cc in 2 jars and used the remaning to noc up a half pint and 1 pint jar too. it grew really damn fast its great and it looks clean too. one of LCs got contamed now it looks like someone dropped a whole bunch of chalk dust into water. needless to say its shot..

now what im unsure of is the WBS. they start out all nice and whispy and from what i hear thats what its supposed to look like. then i thought i saw another post by some guy cymerax where he said they start to fill up so im not sure if those white specs is them just startin to fill up and become more opaque. any comments are welcome especially with someone whos got some experience with oyster mushies!

looks good to me
i have noticed oyster myc tends to look kinda fluffy
and starts out kinda thin
those jars look normal to me

here is some blue oyster on newspaper
notice how the myc is fluffy

I just started growing some Golden oysters in WBS, and came here to see if what I'm growing is oyster myc or contam and from seeing the pictures thatguy1 posted, my myc looks the same.  That makes me happy, I was concerned because I didn't know how long oyster spores takes to germinate because I saw growth after 1 day.  Now the cottony fluff is almost everywhere after 5 days.  I read it starts fluffy then fills in, but I didn't expect it to proliferate this quickly!!

Also, awesome picture noobie! Is that a crate lined with newspaper filled with bulk with vermiculite on top?? If so, do you mind if I try that out?

thanks
all i did was shred some news paper and pasteurize it
then squeezed it to field capacity added some spent coffee grounds
put in a gallon zip lock bag and dumped spawn in the bag
i also used WBS as my spawn, mixed the paper, coffee, spawn really good
then put into the little green baskets

put them in a bag to colonize
once colonized i introduced to fruiting conditions
that top layer id just wet verm
i put it there to help the sub absorb moisture

give it a try it worked out for me:thumbup:
