ArtieFartie's BRF Cake TEK! No Glove-box or PC needed!
    #11393944 - 11/05/09 08:39 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Okay guy's This is my TEK, which I have been using and has worked out pretty well!

For mine, you do not need a glove-box, or Pressure Cooker but one could still be Used.

Materials needed :
A Cooking Pot :

Rocks :

Aluminum Foil :

Masking Tape :

BRF Cakes :

CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT HOW TO MAKE BRF CAKES! (Credit to RogerRabbit)

Lysol Automatic Sprayer (Air cleanser can)

Isopropyl Alcohol 50% or higher :

Spore Syringe :

A little Candle :

A Lighter :

Spare Brain Cells :

Now for the Tutorial,
Make your BRF cakes from the link I posted above, When done place Masking tape over the holes, and then cover the whole top portion of the jar with an aluminum.

Now, fill about 1/4th of the pot with water, and place rocks inside to create a nice platform; Put Aluminum Foil over the rocks, and make sure it's pretty stable.

Once the water starts to boil, place the jars on top of the foil layer (stacking the jars is okay). Place lid on (with a little space for the steam to escape). Let it boil for 90 Minutes. Check on it about every 25 minutes, to see if you need to put more water in it.

Once done, let jars sit on a shelf for at least 7 hours. (Leave the foil and tape on).

After that, follow this :

On the Lysol Automatic Sprayer, there's a button and when you press it it will spray the solution.
Light your candle, and place on something safe, like a plate.
Spray your lysol 2 times near your general work area, and quickly pull on your syringe's plunger and get just a little air bubble in the syringe to shake up the spores.
Take off the Foil and tape,
now flame sterilze your needle, wipe with an Isopropyl Soaked paper towl, and spray another 2 times, Inject 1cc for each jar (1/4 cc per hole).

I usually spray twice, do two jars, and then spray again.

Don't forget to Flame/Isopropyl Alcohol Sterilize between each jar.

I currently have 7 BRK cakes (Oak-ridge) With no contams, and I used this method.

You do realize that Lysol is a surface disinfectant, right?

What's with the sudden glove box hate popping up today? I don't understand the aversion to spending $10 on a tool that, combined with proper sterile tek, ensures a 99% chance of success every time.

I'm a fan the the glove box but prefer the silicone gasket method. Hell you could make these in a coal mine that way and not have to worry about contams.

couldn't sucking a bit of air in the syringe possibly contaminate the sterility?

Spray your lysol 2 times near your general work area, and quickly pull on your syringe's plunger and get just a little air bubble in the syringe to shake up the spores.

why on earth would you do that?
the air is not sterile and could ruin your whole syringe
and about the whole GB bashing i admit its kinda crazy

no need to be fancy about just a box and a bag will do

Well, I know that when I make my syringes that a bunch of spores stick to the side, and this does help.
I spray the Neutra-Air lysol shit to sterilze the air for the couple of seconds that it remains streril.

My glove-box looks like that, except I can't find good gloves. So I use this method. I have some really healthy mycellium going on right now. :crazy2:

Sorry if this didn't make sense, I'm on Hydrocodone, and a lot of some Kush.

I've never seen any teks requiring Lysol, rocks and stuff.
I just do it like this, because I'm pretty broke, and this is all the stuff I had laying around.

I mean think about it.. Rocks. Lol

the only good way to get a few nice air bubbles that are sterile in the syringe is to hold the needle to a flame till its red hot then keep the flame at the tip and suck back a few bubbles of air. I would never inject  air into my syringes unless done like that

If you don't like having a shady glove box around, which I agree is shady as hell, and can be expensive if you want something not made out of cardboard, you could always just use a clear plastic bag, like a garbage bag or glad oven bags.

$6 tote, and $2 picture frame (For the glass)

Cut a hole just small enough for the glass to have a lip to sit/hold onto, and silicone it in.

"We have to create culture, don't watch TV, don't read magazines, don't even listen to NPR. Create your own roadshow. The nexus of space and time where you are now is the most immediate sector of your universe, and if you're worrying about Michael Jackson or Bill Clinton or somebody else, then you are disempowered, you're giving it all away to icons, icons which are maintained by an electronic media so that you want to dress like X or have lips like Y. This is shit-brained, this kind of thinking. That is all cultural diversion, and what is real is you and your friends and your associations, your highs, your orgasms, your hopes, your plans, your fears. And we are told 'no', we're unimportant, we're peripheral. 'Get a degree, get a job, get a this, get a that.' And then you're a player, you don't want to even play in that game. You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that's being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world."

This is almost the pf tek to a tee. Only no tape is needed over the holes, and you dont need shit in the bottom of your pot. Just put the water half way up the jars and lightly boil for an hour.. Also your lysol spray is going to need a few minutes to disinfect the air and the area surrounding it. Spraying a few times and just going at it right after will do nothing.

When PC'ing grains or BRF Cakes, I would always prop the jars off the bottom of the PC. Only time its not needed is when pasteurizing jars that when the water should come 2/3 the way up the jar, other then that to stop the risk of burning the Cakes or grains always prop off the bottom of the PC
