My parents did a pretty good job at that when I was growing up.

I certainly don't trust a book written by a bunch of questionable men. Or a mythological being that is all powerful and will kick your ass if you don't believe in him.

No, just a bunch of fiction books written by a single questionable man. That is certainly much better.

I don't believe in them. You keep harping on something that only exists in your twisted little mind.

Absolutely, just as I have the right not to listen.

Are you saying you don't trust Dan Brown?
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

I only trust when I have to trust...otherwise it puts strains on relationships, as all commitments do, some worse than others.

No, I don't.
I see potential though. Right now man is at an awkward stage in it's development as a species. The next step will either be destruction or creation...we'll implode and die off or evolve to the next 'level'.
And then I'll probably trust everyone, because everyone would use their brain. Most people don't.

The way I read the OP, the significance of the question is great in religion. Mostly the whole pope, bishops, priests, and [whatever the arabic equivelants are] thing. If you believe in a God that is calling the shots, why do you listen to what all these men say? Divine inspiration?
I want some of that divine inspiration shit...

I don't listen to the pope or bishops or even priests
I will accept their advice(not the pope I'm talking pastors or priests)
but I have to evaluate it for myself and if they try to force me to live a certain way I will naturally rebel against that

I'm not talking about someone nagging you to live a certain way like a parent or something
I'm talking about a group of people who believe they know better than you and literally FORCE You to live a certain way, FORCE you to believe a certain way
I'm talking about a situation where you would not have the right not to listen

So is the question 'should others be allowed to push you around?' ?
