Neato!  :rastamon:

I can just make it out in the pic. Amazing what a bit of damage will achieve.

It's a regular old Willimsii.I topped it to try and graft the top.The top rotted, but the root made it,and is pushing out more pups.

Wow- doesn't look anything like a normal williamsii though- either
1. it isn't williamsii
2. it is just growing back in a wierd way.
Good luck with that!

Almost looks like it's growing crested or something, very interesting.

I remember earlier this summer everyone thought you were crazy saying that it was pupping from the center. But sure enough it did. Now it's becoming even more bizarre. Perhaps you have caused something really unique.

Yeah,it's a Willimsii alright, and yeah, everybody did think I was crazy back in the summer:crazy2:And you know what,it seems like it just might be growing crested.I gotta get a better camera,so I can take some better pics,so you guys can see more detail. You really gotta see the pup coming from the center.I have never seen anything remotely like it:grin:

When lophs are subject to a lot of damage, i.e. freezing, sunburn, ect., they will often "burst" through the center like that.
They way it is growing looks completely normal for a loph pushing out new growth, nothing abnormal there.
What was the reason, and how much did you lop off the top?
Was the rest of the cactus damaged by any chance?

I originally topped a nice healthy Loph from the hell of it for a graft. That's all regrowth from the root.I cut a perfect slice right where the green of the top meets the brown of the root.I then repoted the root, and let it dry over,Then I gave it full sun, heavy fertilizer, and water, and in a couple of months it started pushing out new growth.

looking good man.  seems to happen sometimes, jsut goes to show areoles are not needed, and ddint even need to mix up any agar to prove it!

we have had some williamsii and fricii do that as well....looks real neat, but eventually just looks normal
