First-Timer in a rut...
    #11392063 - 11/05/09 06:21 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I'm having some problems getting my cakes to fruit.  At first, I thought I had pins popping up here and there my cakes, but as it turns out that is nothing more than spreading mycelium. I am not entirely sure what I should do to get these cakes to begin fruiting. I have a hydrometer coming in the mail the next day or so, but not yet. Tomorrow evening, these cakes will have been in the fruiting chamber for a week. And still, no sign of fruit.  Below are the pictures of three of the four cakes that I currently have in the fruiting chamber.  I am using a shotgun FC.  What is the problem? What am I doing wrong? And how do I fix it?

I mist and fan several times a day, and the shrooms are in the bedroom with two windows, and get as much light as when the sun is up or down.  The room temperature stays between 60° and 70°F.

Help!

A couple of mine took over a week.  One has growth exactly like yours.  I've read it can take 2+ weeks.  FAE is the biggest pinning trigger, but it sounds like you have that down.  Wait it out.

Did he dream about dragons? Did he dream about deer? Did he whisper  he names of friends who were near?
What songs did they play, and how far away? Why did he whisper, why did she scream?
What does the sound of a screen door mean?
Who talks on the hill? Who goes to the cellar, can you feel the chill? Where does the river, when will the wind?
How far are the mountains? Where do they end? Why would the church?
Did the service begin? Tell me who died, and tell me who cried.
Help me hide in the skin of a deer, my zippered-up bag in the mouth of a stag so swiftly I go through rows of does,
it flows, it flows, it flows, it flows all over the hill where the green grass grows.

All looks good to me. That appears to be some healthy mycelium that is ready to pin any day now. Patience is one of the keys to success in this hobby. Give it at least a few more days before you should start to worry.

Do you have holes on all six sides of your FC?

IMO, you're gonna be just fine.

I do have holes on all six sides of the fruiting chamber.  but I am not sure what IMO means.  So do the pins actually show up on the newly formed mycelium?

IMO = In my opinion

You will start to see pins poking their heads out of that mycelium soon. Not necessarily where those "knots" of mycelium are, but more likely wherever the hell they decide they're gonna grow.

Like i said, looks like some healthy cakes to me. Your patience will be rewarded
