I would pay the extra money for the glass ones personally..  Also some of the plastic ones come with snap on lids they are not on the front page.  They come with white press on caps.

Well I am getting ready to do the agar work right now I will post some pictures when I am done.

cool man.. I did my GT from a print.. the first two dishes looked like some kind of thick fuzzy contam.. but you could see it emanating from the spores by looking underneath the dish..so I kept transferring it.. my last transfer has lost all that fuzz, and just pure thick rhizo strands.. I have found a lot of interest in agar work

I also took some of that good GT rhizo and some good PE growth and threw them in the same dish.. lets see if they do it.

I need to get some better tools.  Cause I am using a modeling scalpel and the fucking thing starts to flake off when it gets red hot.  And it leaves little steel flakes in my petri dishes lol.

You don't really need a big size chunk..  But then again you can use a big one if you want to..

ok because i have been using like 3mm long 1mm wide pieces or 2x2's
i looked just now to see if i had an extra scalpel but i only have 2 extra blades and not an entire scalpel

Like I said I normally use a piece about the size of the tip of a ball point pen..  But a bigger piece isn't really gona hurt anything.

I had the same problem and scalpels take long to cool down.
I now use old heavy gauge(18g) hypodermic needles for agar work.
If you flatten the tip of the needle correctly with a pliers then you will have great agar tools, remove the plunger from an old syringe then glue the needle to the syringe body, now you will have a handy cutting tool for agar and it will stand upright on its own while it cools down.
You can sharpen the flattened needle tip with some sandpaper if need be.
Hope it helps.

Thanks Herbal, I use a slightly thinner needle and bent/rolled it around a pen and makes for a good inoculation loop too.
It May look like shit but it serves a purpose and works well.
