I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I couldn't ever make it through either one of those two.  Got about half way through each and then they both lost their charms for me.

I do have to say that Michael Crichton had a huge hold on me in the sci-fi dept.

it's a really cool fucking concept.  it's comprised of 3 "books".  the setting is after a nuclear war has pretty much wiped out humanity.  what little bit is left is forced to digress, evolutionarily speaking in terms of civilization.  so the first book is set like 600 years after the bomb and the world is like pre-feudal.  then 600 years later at a different stage of civilization, and then finally 600 years after that.

i'm rather a fan of apocalyptic fiction, so this was right up my alley.  but it's also just fucking epic.  i hope you enjoy it.
