Multiple trays in tub question
    #11389648 - 11/05/09 10:56 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

If im going to be using 4 different trays inside of a perlite shotgunned tub, do i have to poke holes in the bottom of the aluminum trays as well as the tub? i figure this might help because it would be healthy for the mycelium to have air passing through the bottom... but i haven't found anything on the boards pertaining to this.

any advice would be jim-dandy

I wouldnt suggest to poke holes in trays just because of the air circulation and penetrance would/could lead to pin formation through the holes underneath your trays. just prepare your shotgun tub and youre good to go.

personally i wouldn't put ur trays in a SG FC, imho. i've tried it before and had RH problems, i assumed it was bc the trays take up too much of the perlites surface area hence less room for water to evaporate. idk tho, no expert.

You've tried it before and had humidity problems, BUT, did you yield any crop? How many flushes or did you stop after the first one cause it was probably weak?

yah i had decent yield, and multiple flushes, but i was dunking in between flushes also. My second flushes were better as i figured out i was having humidity issues and i started using crumbled wax paper on top of my trays and that helped a lot. but my RH still was never high enough. lots of the perlite was covered and i couldn't ever get my RH about about 70%

Why not just monotub and lose the trays?

exactly wut i would say to do. i used to do the whole tray bit but fact is monotubs are lower maintenaince, potentially higher yield, and really don't have all that many more steps to them to do em right. i switched to monotubs and haven't really looked back. if i make a couple mono's every week then i'm harvesting every week and not really doin all that much work. keepin enough spawn to sustain the # of tubs i do is the most challenging part for me.

Its my first grow, im trying some 100% coir trays because i hear they dont contam easily, and ive tried a bunch of different things in each of the trays. Im just testing the waters, and dont want to risk losing the whole thing in one go.

I've got these 4 trays and a couple chambers of cakes goin. Ill take pictures, the coir smells great so far.
