    #11389117 - 11/05/09 06:39 AM (8 years, 15 days ago)

Hi, i am very new to mycology and need some advice pls. I have just opened a bottle of cubensis substrate and there seems to orange something which i cannot identitfy.

I am wanting to fruit this substrate and wondering if it will fruit if i just take the lid off, or do i need to remove it from the jar or adjust the temp...

guidance appreciated. thanks

The correct term is spawn.

The orange stuff is metabolites.

You can theoretically fruit from the jar, but spawning to bulk will give you better yields.

what substrate is that, and how long did that jar take to fully colonize, that myc looks really fluffy.

not sure what the substrate is, some kind of grain that came in a 4ltr bag. I ordered the spawn and then kept it my fridge for a few weeks before adding it to a larger substrate and kept a little in this bottle in case of failure. Been enclosed in this bottle for +-2 weeks.

the straw log started getting green bits so i tossed it outside and keeping it going there. Now i have this spawn in a 750ml bottle and wondering what the easiest way to fruit it would be.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the contaminant,  but I think I see something very sad,  a fully colonized cake in a tapered jar.  :frown:  :frown:

I really hope you can get that thing out.  I think that is something I would break the jar for.

I agree, you would get so much more if you would take it out of the jar, and breaking it seems to be the only way.
