im sure the music one will greatly depend on what type of music youre into.
SomethingLeet used to be a pretty big art forum. dont know how much traffic it sees nowadays..

Everything... Jazz, Blues, Classical, Electronic, Folk, Ambient, Grass...
I guess im looking for all-around music board w/ GOOD TASTE! I want a way to find new artists, and to share to the ones i like. Shroomery's message board just isnt quite enough.
So if any1 knows any good board for anything specific that works, or just something in general..
Thanks guys...

I don't know of any boards that have good taste AND cover everything.
Google it. And if you fail at googling, go to allmusic and see how much new shit you can discover just by following links from one bands bio.
Other ways to find new artists: Blogs, zines, *published magazines, the new releases board at your local record store, explore the catalog of a label your favorite bands are on, etc. I rarely find out about new bands through message boards.

if you arent on last.fm youre missing out.
99% of what i listen to is very small bands. they are either completely unsigned or the label is so small they cant afford major releases.
i find most of them from last.fm, emusic (who deals mostly in independent music you generally cant find anywhere else), and local concert promoters.
find an independent promoter in your area and just start going to shows. if you dont really like who you saw then who cares. at most its like $15 to get in. ive gone to shows alone where im one of 4 people in the audience and its totally rad.
dont need to really talk about it that much.. just go do it. enjoy yourself.

eMusic has the worst selection ever.
I'm also on the lookout for decent music forums. Never found much of anything. I'm afraid I won't care for any I find that fit tastes I'm looking for because they will be littered with elitists.

emusic really only caters to independent artists and fans. if thats not what youre into it might not work out for you. i find more stuff there than i ever could hunting down torrents.
i could do amazon mp3 store but emusic is cheaper.. a lot cheaper.
ive been signed up to emusic for 3 years or so. theyve always been great.

Even public trackers have a bigger selection than eMusic. Maybe it's different than when I was a member, but I remember using it to mainly download popular older jazz and popular indie music. Otherwise it wasn't much use and I canceled my subscription in favor of an increase in downloading torrents and such.

Maybe I should bite my tongue. A bunch of albums I've downloaded are on that page.
In fact after searching some artists I wouldn't expect to be on there I'm rather impressed. Kudos eMusic.

theyve changed a bunch in the last few years. its library has gotten bigger but if youre looking for popular music (even if its popular indie music) you still might not find it. this is really about super small bands.
usually ill hear a few songs on the bands myspace page (cause they have no proper site of their own) and download the album to see if i like it. if i do ill usually try and catch them the next time they are in town.
emusic isnt really about finding the band youre looking for. its about finding new music you have not heard yet. if you want generic-popular-band #3 then just torrent it. you can find it. emusic is just a difference in philosophy from itunes or whatever. i like it.

Fair 'nough. And as I said I'm rather impressed with what they offer now. Not enough to pay for it again, but enough that I understand where you're coming from.

buy their records
btw thanks for the heads up on that emusic site, there is some good info there =]
All the music forums I frequent are more targeted at the artist/labels, not teh listeners... I usually just go to them to listen to what other people are making in their rooms.

its not a forum, but 'Pandora', has been my best source for hearing and finding new tunes for years. don't know what I'd do without it.
The way it works is you make your own station by plugging in an artist or song you like. Then it starts playing music continuously based on the style of the artist or song you first plugged in. IT gives you group bio's as each song plays and if you dislike a song you can thumbs it down and it will skip that song. if you like it you thumbs it up and it will play that song or artist at a later time and also give you more music to listen to that is similar.
My favorite stations at the moment are 'Tabla Beat Science' and 'Aphex Twin'.

If you like Pandora check out Grooveshark. Another awesome internet radio station/site.
