Thoughts about PF Casing

I'm considering switching to the casing method, so of course I had a question.
When sterilizing the 50/50 peat moss and verm mix, is it okay to just stick it in a jar and pressure cook to sterilize?
thanks!

No.
You want to pasteurize not sterilize.
If you're going to use a pot you want to pasteurize in jars or oven bags in a water between 60C/140F - 70C/160F for one hour. Don't pressure cook.
If you want to microwave pasteurize you need to put your mix in covered microwavable containers with a few 1/4 inch holes in the lids and covered with micropore tape to allow for any gas/pressure release. You want to nuke your mix at three 3 minute intervals.
I use the microwave method, it's quick and has never failed.

i went from the PF tek to casing. worked pretty damn well. i made the 50/50+ tek and pasteurized it in 2 pots on a stove. its easier that way. just put it on low heat until it gets above 160 and keep it there for an hour. remember to stir it up and whatnot. you might need to add water after its all done and cooled off to get it to field capacity.
break your cakes up extremely fine. put a layer of 50/50 down in the tray, then the broken up cakes, and a half inch or so of the 50/50+ tek, covered with a lid, and let incubate again.
MAKE SURE that when you put each layer down that the tops of the layers are as even as possible!!! otherwise the pinset wont be completely even. idk if it ever will, but doing this will help.

I'm kind of confused to be honest.
I've done some basic BRF tek with the cakes, then to the aquarium. But I'm real interested in trying to get higher yield by using this other method, the one in which you crumble the cakes.
As you can tell I'm still in research mode.

but you have to crumble the cakes to poo or coir to get better yields. with out that you will get less recolonizing the broken cakes

casing or not casing will not change the yield and is not necessary for cubes and just adds time to the harvest

not what ive experienced.
i dunked a bunch of cakes, fruited 1 B+ as a cake, dunked and rolled. and the rest i broke up and cased. the trays colonized and grew mushrooms quicker than the cakes.
i already harvested 3 trays and im still waiting for the mushroom on the cake to finish up.
I HIGHLY SUGGEST casing PF cakes with the 50/50 Plus casing tek. search for it.
its simple and dumb not to do. i have a bunch more cakes ready and im casing all of them, cakes suck.

Unless you crumble your cakes and mix in a bulk substrate, then case it. That improves your yields.
We're not talking rocket science here. If you want to do it on a small scale all you need is some used coffee and & vermiculite.
Make a pot of coffee, once the grounds are cool mix it with about an equal volume of crumbled cakes in some sort of container. Give it about a week to colonize the coffee grounds.
Case it lightly then fruit it.
Here's an example. I was making some mono tubs one day and had some leftover pf cakes and a handful of substrate.
I grabbed a leftover blueberry pie dish I had just finished eaten and mixed my leftovers in.
I ended up getting almost 1.5 oz dry out of that thing over subsequent flushes.
When it was time to fruit, I just poked some holes in the lid and mist once or twice a day.
Once the fruits would get big enough they'd push the lid up and off, shortly after I'd harvest, patch the casing and start over.
Here's one with about 1 quart of horse poo + 1/2 quart of spawn.

You nailed it. You can't really tell from the pic but it is a shoebox container.

Keeps the fruits a manageable size, easy to move around, also good for experimenting.
How do you fruit them?

If you want to increase yield try crumbling the cakes to a substrate mix of 70% coir, 20% spent coffee grounds, and 10% gypsum.
Once mixed together, cover the container with a lid or foil with small holes poked in the top, and place it wherever you incubated your jars, until fully colonized.
Once colonized, case with a mix of 50% peat and 50% vermiculite. Only case with about 1/4 inch or less.
Three to six times a day, fan, then mist, then fan again. Don't soak the cakes but keep them moist.
In the future you may want to try one of the grain or WBS teks rather than crumbling cakes.
