I just would like to know the difference in potency against Cubensis and Copelandia, i want to read some bio assays too ! I think the mexicana must be "better" than Cube if we follow the Mexican's people opinion because they have more respectfor this strain ...i never tried it yet... ...in my mind, i see the effect of mexicana similar as Copelandia...am i right? thank you for putting some info on those beautiful mushrooms that nobody never talk about...

I think I ate Mexicana when I had my first trip with shrooms. It was in Chiapas, Mexico. A guy in San Cristobal, named Kiki, sold me a bag with at least 15 shrooms. Since it was my first trip I was quite inexperienced, so I tried eating only 4 shroom. They were almost fresh... I chewed them with strawberry jam, and the trip has been one of my greatest experience in my life. But since that one has been my only trip, I don't know the differences with other strains. I can tell you that just today I harvested my first flush of P. Cubensis, than maybe in the next weeks I will tell you more... unfortunately my trip diary of the Mexican experience is in Italian, and it's very long to be translated... but it's a pity because it's great (even if I think that a trip is great for everyone!). Stay tuned!

My first ever trip ever which was about 2 years ago, was on mexicana mushrooms. I experienced some very 'vivid' sensations, as you may imagine. At one point, being out in the woods staring up at the sky, I felt like I was being pulled towards the moon. But there was no fear involved, I felt sort of released. It was definately one of the most intense feelings I have ever experienced.
Anyway ..... ... Mexicana are great teachers in the world of psychedelic madness ..... ...... .......... .............. ............ .................

I thought psilocybe mexicana was just a strain of cubensis? I know there are mexican shamen who prefer the cubensis mushrooms that don't grow in cowshit.

Psilocybe Mexicana is a specie, does not seems to grow on dung...seems to be held in estim by chamans... it's of the strains that may have been used by precolombians (teonanacatl-the flesh of the gods) according to our myco-archeo-ethnologues...

Hi Alex123, It is actually P. mexicana which is the preferred species of the Mazatecas. T hye have always avoided any mushroom which grew in manure and were eating mushrooms before the Spanish ever brought cattle tot he new wolrld. They parajitos, as they are refered to (little birds) arre simila in the high to liberty cabs and are very calming shrooms with intense visuals similar to P. xemilandeata (liberty caps.) the shamns, brujos, curanceras, saios, etc and medicine men in general always use P. mexicana, P, caerulescens and P. hoogshagenii as theyir three preferred species. The manure shrooms are not preferered onlyby modern meztizos who like to sell the P. cubensis to tourists or use them for a tourist ceremoinial trip.
mj
BTW, there are more the 190 known specie sof psilocybian fungi and only a few dozen or so grow from manure. The othes from wood debris, muclch, bark snady soilds and lawns or pasturelands but not directly dfrom manure. the manure species are but a smal corner of the psiocybian complex of 13 families comprising some 190 species worldwide.
A list is posted somewhere here at the shroomery and also at my website.

And Kopelandia,
The P. mexicana is a munured field shroom growing like liberty caps attached tothe roots of wild grasses. The aztecs had many shrooms which are describned in great detail in thecodices recorded by the fransican monks and friars and later reported by Sahag?n in his Historia of Nueva Esoa?a, othersiwese known as the Florentine Codex.
They ate several varieties which they referrred to as Teonan?catl (flesh of the gods. wondrous mushroom or awesom mushroom). However today in modern times, no indian in Mesoamerica has ever referred tot hese shrooms as Teonanacatl.
There is a whole book on the history of the mushrooms names of Mesoamerica and other regions of the orld published at my site inthe articles section.

Mj - you nearly forgot the Bayazoo - Zapotecorum which often reported growing in the soils inside Mexican village houses. This mushroom is nearly identical to Ps.Aucklandii - Buchanan found only slight microscopic differences between Zapotecorum and Aucklandii as well as Ps.Makarorae and Ps.Caerulipes.

Well, I don't know if they were Mexicana strain or whatever, but I've done the translation of my trip just for you, Shroomery friends.
You can access it here.
I hope it's not too long and boring.
Have a nice read.

Yes I don't think they were cubensis... but I rally don't know. If you meet Kiki in San Cristobal market, ask him! He told me they use to eat 4/5 shrooms for a medium trip, but someone also takes 7/8. I went for 4... and it was great. My girlfriend had 3, so she had a more "smelling" trip, more than visual. But in the next weeks I'm having my first homegrown mushroom trip... I'll tell you more...
Bye,
Andrash
