Contamination?

I recently began my first attempt at pf-tek. It's been two days and my jars are incubating in a tub at approx. 76-78 F. Yesterday, I noticed a faint rotting smell coming from the tub and was wondering if this means contamination? There are no visible signs of bacterial, or fungal growth. If this does mean contamination, is it possible that it is some jars and not others, and if so, should I identify the jars that smell and separate them from the others? Can contamination spread from one jar to another in close proximity?
I appreciate any help.

one or more of your jars probably has a bacterial contamination. is it absolutely necessary that you use an incubator?

Yeah they smell pretty bad. I inoculated three days ago, and yes, I have to use an incubator because room temp here is 64 F. I wasn't aware that overcooking was a possibility. How would I be able to tell?

I keep my house @ 65 degrees F. Put the spawn in a cupboard and they progress just fine..........

The "bad smell" might have something to do with your moisture content.

I had a nasty smell and stuck threw it. It week 2 or 3 i found three jars with blackish spots. I tossed them and the other 43 were good. I say wait it out check jars daily and look for any dark colors. PS when i removed the bad ones the smell went away..

It's been nearly two weeks and the smell hasn't changed. One of the jars had some discoloration, so I removed it, but the rest seem to be progressing okay. I might have initially overreacted.
Thanks for all your help.
