plz help man

yo im brand new these forums so  dont  flame me or anything just want a little help


Habitat:
grows in  northeastern PA in a  decaying tree

Gills:
attached moderate length between each

Stem:
2-4 inches 1.56 centimeters, yellow, woody, solid, thick

Cap:
4 inches, dim yellow, conical? convex, etc.

Spore print color:
no idea

Bruising:
idk

Other information:
just smells like mushrooms

Could be Pholiota or Gymnopilus.

Check the spore print color.

how am i supposed to check if its bitter w/o eating it? and ill have pics of the print soon just gotta make em lol but as of now from a print on another mushroom ( due to overlapping) it looks somewhat chocolatey but ill edit this post soon to post a pic

Looks like a Pholiota to me.
You don't need to eat it to taste it. Just take a nibble chew on it and then spit it out. That won't harm you, even if it were a poisonous mushroom.

No. Pretty sure that's a Pholiota and it could make you ill if you eat it.
